Current OC and Zach

Ive never seen a QB regress as much as Zach due toRookie OC. 100% on our OC and not understanding how to build up Zachs confidence calling plays to his strength starting at game ONE! Not game 2,3,7, WTF? Im so concerned over this regression is this kids strengths is his arm power and accuracy is now to where he cant pass 3yds to WR without throwing ball in the dirt. This is a first for me to see a QB with such talent to regress to where he cant make a 3yd pass and stRes at WR passing to. No one helping him to pass in 3 second rule? What to hard for OC? Our Rookie OC Job is to do everything to help this QB with all his talent. Not utterly destroy his confidence where he cant make a 3yd pass, staring at WRs, throwing in dirt and running around like crazed meth head having helmet ripped off by a idiot O Lineman who doesnt know to take flag to protect QB whos already regressing thanks to Rookie OC who still doesnt know the future was Zachs training. Im afraid Zach may not be able to come back and be that player he was. Right now the mistakes by Zach Im not sure with his lack of cobfidence that he could stop doing them. These bad habits are not what happens after NFL its bad habits QB has before abd has to fix. Instead our OC has caused Zach to develope these bad habits he didnt have before. WTF is our OC thinking? Cant create problems for a Rookie QB, you are suppose to help him build confidence by play calls to his strengths and not tearing him apart to high school level of play. This is the worst Eff. Up Ive ever seen by an OC in helping a Rookie QB. If GM and HC dont stop this stupid crap by OC who only cares about winning and looking good so not to be criticized by media and willing to throw our Rookie QB career into the trash. Im serious here, these bad habits developed from OC Im not sure Zach can fix. Regression this far with developing bad habits now new to him looking like deer in head lights staring at WR ,passing into dirt on a 10 foot pass is Major set back and all due to the WORST QB COACHING Ive ever seen in handling a Rookie QB.

Thank you gmf. I would like to know if other Jets fans noticed this about OC throwing Zach under bus and creating these awful bad habits he didnt have before, but does now.

we have had 3 top 5 QBs in the last 12 years.
the only time that we truly gave the rookie a sounding board was Darnold having McCown; although Brunnell was there for Sanchez, IMO, it wasn't the same. Sam had a pretty good rookie season because of that.

I think they saw a bit of what you have seen.
hence, bringing in Beck to recalibrate the fundamentals as a specified QB Coach. I bet you're going to see favorable results now.

you have another valid point and that's the confidence factor...Zach is in NY... , while Mac is in Foxboro and Trevor is in Jax. every time #2 makes a bad play, morons are making prognostications of his demise and our waste of a Second Overall Selection because that's what the idiots in the press do to a NY Rookie, and especially a JET Rookie QB...that is HORSE-SHIT.

I noticed 5 things on Sunday, and although not pretty, were significant improvements:

1.) his uncatchable balls were, for the most part, overthrows...kids without confidence underthrow.
there weren't a lot of uncatchables. #86 had one in both hands that would have been a TD. #8 had a shallow cross go right thru his hands. #8 had a really nice strip by a DB too. Those 3 standout... with a little luck and/or concentration he's 17 for 24 with a TD.

2.) No Hero-Ball...for everyone taking swipes at him for "not being team first", " being show off", etc, i saw a guy trying to morph his skills into our offense. for the most part, it looked clunky at best. but he ended the game going 13 for 19 and 134...that's 7 yards per attempt.

3.) At the same time he WAS NOT playing Hero Ball, he wasn't hiding who he is either. He hit #8 with a deep slant (that if thrown better, #8 is still running). IMO, that "miss" of a huge play, was because he isn't trusting #8 yet...but then he went back to him and threw a side armed dart to him that forced the DB to make a great deflection to keep from #8 taking it to the house.

4.) He looked deep...then hit #86 for some nice pick-ups and a first underneath, then hit #10 and got rewarded with a great gainer.

5.) no balls in traffic. He's making the right reads and nobody is making him see ghosts.

This regime have their game plan and drafted players they believed including Zach that can eventually master their craft and this style of play book... If you look at Mike LaFleur his game plan is designed for a pocket passer to dink and dunk but they fell in love with Wilson's deep ball accuracy which would take this offensive game plan from simple dynamic to simply unstoppable...

One problem, Zach even in college had problems with the short passing throws, either he is overthinking or unable to process proper zip on those short throws... I believe the short touch, zip and understanding can be coached and it will take time for him to figure it out... But one thing is he does well is improvise but at this level it is a dangerous feat when players know that you can not throw the easy stuff...

Continuing to get those game reps will only improve, not immediately but over time his overall game... My hope is eventually before the end of the season he is capable about around 40% on the short passes, I know not sexy but he needs a short goal to achieve... Once there they can add more decisive and intricate designs where as the offense grows he grows within it...

I am on record that I was not onboard with the Jets drafting Zach Wilson because I saw this in his tape... But we don't have enough capable options surrounding him yet to see him to progress... Eventually after the next two drafts they should have a capable offensive line and weapons for Zach to better grip the game plan and as long as the play calling stays consistent they as a group from coaching and the players will grow together...

I understood from day one what they were trying to build, but now I understand the concept and structure that Robert Saleh and his team are implementing and it is the right culture, so relax and enjoy will be a bumpy ride in the first two years but thereafter will finally show how dominate this team will become...

From first few games I seen Zach throw passes accurately 15 to 45 yds . Now I seen Zach passes sailing or at feet low. What made him a 2nd pick was accuracy passing without planting his feet! Only a handful of QBs are good at it maybe 4 or 5 counting Zach if he gains confidence in himself and focuses on 3 second clock in his head since Coaches cant put a air horn and 3 sec watch timming Zachs inside clock. Zach clock in his head is all over the place. If he gets to look straight forward using his field vision and seeing his WRs that will be open then we will see this top Drafted QB. He has field vision and seen him use it like Peyton Manning did. Now some problems from Zach not doing this is not seeing the one open WR and the other is WRs that dont continue running the same speed on route and breaks and turns slowing with Zach passing at where WR should be but isnt. Every QB throws his passes to where a WR is going to be and if not? Then its thrown away or worse INT. Point is I dont see Coaches playing to Zachs strengths and what he does best. This causes more and more mistakes by Zach. So.e staring at 1 WR behind Center or taking off from pocket before needed. Yes some is from O Line collapsing in middle allowing Defenders bull rushing soon as he has the ball like last game giving him 1 second to do something. What it really does is causes panic and loss of confidence and We Jets Fans do NOT want that for Zach! The first 2 QBs off the Draft are the 2 best, but are on unbuilt Offenses and new Coaches. I wanted these Jets coaches because I thought Selah and OC would design plays and schemes in the Passing,Running game like the 49ers while building up Zachs confidence like Rex Ryan and his OC did for Sanchez who isnt close to Zachs talent passibg and accuracy. So it needs to Stop! Show pass and run and show run then pass. But this Jets show run and 10 in the box and its a run isnt working. We just cant allow Zach to add these new bad habit mistakes that will be very hard for Zach to get rid of at in fact set him backwards for 2 years if it continues. Help Zach and grow with him! He is young and done right and Players added next year and you could see the next big Super star. Or continue to ruin his play and be tbe first time Ive seen a QB with actual talent drafted by Jets ruined. Sanchez,Darnold wasnt close to talent Zach has.

@gastineau, i think that the fanbase in his corner (as in those of us who wanted him after we traded Sam) were all concerned with many of the things you've addressed; as we were seeing another top 5 pick being squandered. The fanbase who didn't like him feel they are being proven correct in their assessment.

the only thing i can encourage you with is is to say to give the staff a chance...they look to have seen it too.

another thing to feel better about is what you brought up about the 49er's running game. "if" our offense is predicated off of Shannahan's offense, then it is built on Tons of Runs...before Zach got hurt, we couldn't run the ball, but that has changed. The OLine has had the playbook "slow down" for them too, and we are seeing the results.

i bring that up, because that is going to take a lot of pressure off of Zach to feel like he has to make miracles happen every snap. Case in point was Ty's 23 yard run on 3rd and forever... that put us in a manageable 4th down; i can't remember if they went for it or not, but the point is they didn't put a 3rd and forever on Zach.
