Dai'Jean Dixon Scouting Report

Da'Jean is a very good size and length to play outside at the next level. He has good overall athleticism with long speed and exceptional body control. He has above average quickness and burst. He flashed some twitch and explosiveness when high pointing throws.

Dixon has good hands. He is comfortable extending at all angles away from his body to snatch throws. He is above average route runner with the ability to work from the slot. He is adequate getting in and out of his breaks on shorter routes. He is a competitive player who is a willing blocker. He is not afraid to use his size and play strength.

Areas for Improvement

Although he is a high level producing receiver, there are a few things that still need polished when it comes to Dai’Jean Dixon. The biggest weaknesses in Dixon’s game is his ability to work in the open field. Dixon will need to continue to polish his route running, as it is crucial when it comes to timing and spacing in the NFL. I would also like to see Dixon use his speed and elusiveness more effectively, making him a greater threat when the ball is in his hands.

Dai'Jean Dixon Career at School

At Edna Karr received Louisiana Sports Writers Association 4A All-State honorable mention… named New Orleans Advocate All-Metro honorable mention. He tallied 42 receptions for 1,004 yards and 11 touchdowns and helped guide the Cougars to an undefeated campaign and a Class 4A state title in 2016.

Freshman campaign, Dai'Jean played in all 12 games, logging seven starts. He is one of just two true freshmen to see action and was second on the team in receiving yards, totaling 489 on 23 receptions with five touchdowns. In 2018, named All Southland Second Team after leading the Colonels with 53 receptions for 753 yards and 7 touchdowns. He averaged 57.9 yards receiving per game and 14.2 yards per reception.

He totaled eight touchdowns and was second in the FCS with 116.0 yards receiving per game. As a senior, in 2020 he played in all seven games. He totaled 514 yards on 35 receptions with seven touchdowns. He returned with the additional year of eligibility due to the pandemic and played in 10 games, missing the finale with an injury. He led the Southland with 100.2 yards receiving per game. He finished with 1,002 yards on 71 receptions and eight touchdowns. He became the first Colonel to record two 1,000 yard seasons. He earned five All American honors, All Southland First Team and All Louisiana First Team.

Dai'Jean Dixon NFL Draft Player Profile

Dixon is a big-bodied receiver who aligned both inside and outside in college. He has good hands with long arms that allow him to maximize his catching range. Dixon flashes explosiveness when high-pointing throws, and that quick-twitch athleticism shows up on his releases. He is able to win with body control and lateral burst along with his bigger frame. Dixon is a competitive player who is a willing blocker on the outside, where he will use his long arms to his advantage to gain leverage.

Dixon is an above-average route-runner right now. He will get stuck on shorter routes when operating from the slot, but it’s still encouraging to see him be somewhat competent in those routes given his size. And although he flashes some twitchiness, he is just average with the ball in his hands, preferring to simply get north.

Dixon will likely be an outside-only receiver at the NFL level. He has enough long speed and overall athleticism and is a comfortable catcher. He is not afraid to use his size and has potential in the red zone as a true ball winner. He will need continued refinement on his route polish, and there will be a jump in competition level that will likely take some time to adjust to. But he has some intriguing tools to work with, and his competitiveness and toughness gives him some potential as a special teams player early in his career. He has room for development as a No. 3 or 4 receiver on a roster who can take a handful of snaps from the slot as well with his blocking ability.
