Daniel Bellinger Scouting Report

Daniel has very middling speed and athleticism. He has gotten a lot quicker in 2020 and 2021. He has good upper body strength. He has a stout lower body, gets exccellent drive. He has exceptional power, especially for his size. He ran a decent route tree, although mostly utilized as a blocker.

Daniel is a possession style receiver. He offers some vertical ability, but would be very limited in this role. He have very consistent hands, he rarely drops the ball. He shows the ability to catch well through contact. He is a decent pass blocker.

Daniel holds his edge against middle of the pack edge rushers and linebackers. He is a strong run blocker. He works well inline. He works well into the second level. He is a strong technical blocker. He has the size to be very effective from his spot.

Areas for Improvement

Bellinger is a bit high hipped. He is slow to get rolling. His high cut frame and limited power in hands prevent a top blocking grade.

Bellinger is a glider, moves faster than he appears but lacks the top end speed to be a real threat down the seam. His acceleration is less to be desired for the NFL level.

Bellinger is not a particularly explosive athlete. He is not a nuanced route runner. He struggles to win with any style, but will find soft spots in zone coverage or work open in an improvised situation. He is not particularly gifted with vertical ability.

Daniel Bellinger Career at School

Tall, lanky tight end who continues to get bigger in the weight room. He played more as the season wore on in 2018 as a true freshman and was routinely used in big packages. He was productive 2019 and 2020 campaigns. He has started 24 straight games at tight end. He entered the 2021 season as the projected starting “Y” tight end.

Daniel Bellinger NFL Draft Player Profile

Daniel is arguably the best blocking tight end prospect in this draft class. That means that Bellinger should aways have value in the NFL as a second tight end. His run blocking ability is very consistent and he’s a great impact blocker. His receiving ability, however limited it may be, can also be utilized in certain situations. He’s a good piece with a limited ceiling but a low risk.
