DJ Davidson Scouting Report

DJ is a powerful nose guard, standing at 6'3" weighing in at 325 pounds. He has 33 inch arms that often aid him in getting a well timed punch that jar them off balance. He's got a terrific strength in his hips that he can roll forward to drive his man backward or rotate to throw his man to the side.

Davidson has a thick lower half also shows up in more ways than one. He uses impressive leg drive that can even move double teams in the opposite direction. He also sinks well to absorb double teams that try and drive him, he rarely budging a bit. He plays with good pad level.

DJ fires out of his stance low and with good burst. He also pursues well for a player his size. He is able to chase plays to the sideline and downfield. He is just as effective driving his man backward to force the runner to change his approach or stacking up blockers to jam up the middle.

Davidson will also work down the line of scrimmage against perimeter plays and does a good job staying square to the line. He collapses the pocket well and looks for the quarterback to try and step into an escape lane. He will occasionally use a quick lateral move off the snap with a powerful swipe to get a free run at the pass, but it is rare.

Areas for Improvement

DJ is a powerful nose guard that doesn't play continuously with physicality. He often gets turned away from the play with lack of consistent leg drive when he takes plays off. He is not a three down player. He has to play with better hand placement, and has to better playing to the whistle. He needs to be more decisive when he gets off the snap utilizing more pass rush skills from his arsenal to get to the passer.

DJ Davidson Career at Arizona State

DJ Davidson lead his team to the state championship game his senior season. He played in 13 games as a senior, recording 67 total tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks. He also produced four forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries, including one returned for a touchdown.

Davidson participated in spring practices after enrolling early, spent his freshman year redshirting. Following year he had forced his way into the defensive line rotation before suffering a season ending injury. He played in 8 games along the interior of the defense, giving the Sun Devils physicality in the trenches. He finished the season with ten tackles, three and half for loss and two sacks.

As a redshirt sophomore he was a key contributor to the Sun Devils defense. He started twelve of thirteen games at nose tackle. He played a factor in the run game, anchoring the middle of the defensive line. He was extremely productive for his position, collecting 51 tackles and 4.5 for loss.

During his reshirt junior year he started all four game for the Sun Devils at defensive tackle. He registered fifteen tackles with one and half for loss and a sack. He finished eleventh among interior linemen with ten pressures forced.
