all fair points..

not a fan of replacing an older back with an even older one..

could the bolded mean mac is preparing for powell to sign elsewhere?? I hope not..
Forte and Powell would not be change of pace backs, they would share reps to stay fresh or Powell is gone.

So I'm guessing now if Elliot is still there at number 20 the Jets are going to pass on him?

In this case, while Forte is older, he has less wear and tear based on his running style. He's not a masher between the tackles. Besides, his hands out of the backfield are a better fit for Chan's system.

I'm not in love with the move, but I like it.

Don't like this signing at all.... I think he's out of gas
Disagree, he was cheaper than ivory, fits our system better, and is an upgrade. We ate better with forte, he actually plays and makes plays. Where was ivory in the last 11 games of the season? Getting healthy for the Buffalo game?

Forte has been a thorn in the Packers side forever.
As a Packers fan HYATT™ is glad to see him finally out of the division.

As a Jets fan, this move is also exciting, giving FitzMagic something he sorely missed all of last season with no viable TE on the roster.
Now, if Amaro can pull up his big-boy pants and start playing like the man he should be on the field, the Jets offense will have taken TWO large steps toward being offensively competitive with anyone in the league.
A little touch-up to the grey along the OL and the hot chix bookies will be begging the Jets to spend the night.

The offense just took a step up, even if losing Snacks means the defense took one back.
Overall, the trade-off benefits team balance, even though HYATT™ believes the Jets DL will suffer for losing one of the rare really good 3-4 NTs in football.

Which is why I wish this signing took place a week from now.

What are the chances we got a team-friendly deal on the first day of FA?
excellent point..

it makes finding out the numbers that much telling to how mac is handling cap hell..

The assumption is that, because Ivory took the Jags' money shortly before Forte became a Jet, Forte was replacing Ivory. I disagree.

I think Forte may be replacing Powell. As Elias said, Forte is much more like Powell than he is Ivory. And he's a better fit with Chan's system, considering how effective he is catching it out of the backfield.

What if the plan is to bring in Forte as a veteran speed back, and to look to the draft for a power back to replace Ivory? Of course, no rookie is going to be as effective as Ivory, but by drafting a power back as opposed to signing one, you are getting someone who has far lower mileage, far fewer hits. Let's say the Jets go with Forte, draft a guy like Jordan Howard out of Indiana in the third round, and see what the market bears for either Powell or another back?

By gosh Watson, you may have hit upon THE plan !!!

And, remember decent RBs are drafted outside of Rd 1 all the time.
Eddie Lacy (#61)
Le'Veon Bell (#48)
Adrian Foster (UDFA currently an UFA)
LeSean McCoy (#53)
Jamaal Charles (#73)
Chris Ivory (UDFA)
Carlos Hyde (#57)
Justin Forsett (Rd 7-#233)

Just some examples of top rushers that were NOT taken in Rd 1.
Even Doug Martin is a borderline Rd 2, taken at #31.

Spend those higher picks on an OL to protect the QB and open holes for the RBs, and the rest will take care of itself.

The deal is for three years and 12 million, 8 million guaranteed.

So technically its two years at 4 million per, with a club option for a third year at the same 4 million.

Thats a good, cost efficient deal.
