Hack kicked out of practice for not knowing how to break a huddle

This may be the most embarrassing thing someone has done in Jets uniform since Mark Sanchez’s infamous butt fumble.

The New York Jets aren’t expected to contend for anything this year except a top-3 draft pick in next years NFL draft, but they need to at least seem like they want to be competitive and know what they are doing.

The team currently has a who’s who at the quarterback position and Christian Hackenberg displayed that on Monday when he got himself kicked out of practice by the coaching staff because he couldn’t figure out how to break a huddle correctly. Seriously.

So let us get this straight. We've been told he just had to fine tune his throwing mechanics. Then we were told that after two years of camp, he still had problems with his FOOTWORK? It took him two years to learn how to stride when he throws a football. You know, the skill(throwing) they're paying him to do? And all this time, he's had plenty of time to study the playbook and we find out he hadn't learned how to BREAK A HUDDLE??? Isn't that on page 1? This makes me wonder how many plays he knows, or at least knows accurately. This says as much about the academics at his college (Sandusky U) as it does about his reading comprehension. He sounds like a lost cause.

Only hope for Jets is #1 pick. If they screw up the #1 pick then all hope for the future goes out the window.

the 1st pick in the draft wasn't crazy talk even before enunwa got IRed..

even with this new report on hackenberg, i would still like to see the kid get a chance to be the week one starter.. if he shits the bed, what's the damn difference??

i can't think of one up side to anyone but hackenberg or petty taking all the regular season snaps in '17..

but of course, in bowles infinite wisdom, mccown has been getting almost all the 1st team snaps so far in camp.. yeah, like i didn't see that one coming.....

Agreed 100%. There is no sense to cut every veteran, to go young - and then to play McCown over Hack or Petty. Zero sense.

If Hack or Petty is not week 1 starter then there will be nothing Bowles can do to earn my respect. I will be right there with the rest of you that he should be fired and so should Mac for drafting these two stiffs at QB.

I'm a hackenberg defender and/or homer. So my response to this report is he looked good in the green and white scrimmage and got first team reps the other day. And the same day as the issue un question, he is on video launching a deep ball that hit Anderson in stride for a touchdown. Cant hit the water from a boat or break a huddle, everything I have read so far says he has improved.

He is clearly much improved over last year, but is probably still not ready to be the week 1 starter. I like his potential, but he is not there yet and I think it is ridiculous to say that Bowles and MM should be canned if he isn't the week 1 starter. He will get a chance to show what he has, but only after JM starts the season.

what exactly is hackenberg going to gain from starting the season on the bench?? it certainly won't be reps, because mccown will be getting almost all of them..

besides, bowles, left to his on devices, won't start hackenberg until we are mathematically eliminated.. i firmly believe that.. & if i'm right, the kid, much like petty last season, will get his audition with a mostly deflated/humiliated team.. that is unless you believe bowles can prevent his team from quitting on him like last season.. i don't..

I think a lot of this will be played out starting Saturday. If hack can show that he is capable without a red jersey on and he isn't too far of from JM, then he should play. Because like Old#15 said, why start him behind a team that is 1-9 and just wants the season to end. At least on opening day every one is 0-0 and anything can happen. Give the kid as much experience as you can, because if we are as bad as we think we will be, we may have a chance to draft Darnold or Rosen. If that's the case, I would like to know whether or not Hack could be the answer before that.

Is there a chance that the jets could be a 1-15 team and hack has played and showed he can do it? Sure. Peyton lead the 98 colts to 3-13, but he had something and they built around it. Giving the kid a few games isn't going to show that. It would lead to the jets drafting one of the top qb prospects and letting hack walk. Who knows what he is, but there is only one way to find it out.

My math says the Jets are eliminated already.

I was reading on gang green nation.com that hack completion percentage in training camp so far he's only 50%. While Petty's is I think just at 60 and McCown is at 66. If this is truly the case then it's pretty obvious that hack's going to have to do something extraordinary in preseason to take to starting job. This is truly truly a sad and unfortunate situation if this is the case because who the hell wants to see Mccown on the field, and I personally really don't want to see Petty on the field either. I saw him last year with much better talent than we have now and he did nothing. So I really can't see him doing any better with what we have now. This was supposed to be a year of evaluating hack to see if we needed to draft a QB in the first round at not. If he's hardly going to be on the field on game time then how can I possibly evaluate that?

Just being a JETS fan is hard watching our team draft the wrong QB over and over passing up on future HOF QB's and settling on QB like Hackenburg. Draft board Drafting of QB's by Jets GM's over the years have worked wonders since 1966! Yep a year after we drafted Namath our Jets wouldnt know how to draft QB'S ever again...lol.

There's an outside variable that both parties to this debate are failing to consider:

Mac did nothing in the way of a veteran or a veteran, experienced, talented unit to aid Hack in his development. Regardless of whether you feel Hack should start day one or not, the lack of overall talent on offense will haunt whomever does start and their development.

A veteran OL, a great running game, a few veteran stud WR's? Anything that a young QB can at least rely on as a constant strength that will take pressure off the QB.

Mac did none of that. I fail to see in any scenario where Hack actually has a fighting chance? He has every variable working against him.

at least back then they knew to give the ball to Namath and not that other talented rookie - so long ago - Huarte....
