The Eagles have restructured the contracts of Derek Barnett and Lane Johnson, according to a source familiar with their thinking.

The moves free up cap $ this year, which can pushed into ‘22. Believed to be part of overall cap management, not for one specific purpose/player.

In situations like this, it’s highly likely they added voidable years to the contracts to free up cap dollars. That wouldn’t change things for Barnett, who is in the final year of his deal.

I see that Barnett is about 6 sacks a year the last two years, which is nothing to sneeze at. I loved him at UT, just a relentless sack machine who if I'm not mistaken broke Reggie White's all-time Vol sack record. If Crowder is all it takes, its a no-brainer.

Add to that Barnett is only 25 or 26 years old so he could become a long term addition if he works out which would add great depth at that position. Eagles are trying to rebuild their roster and I think they will be looking for draft capital and would probably let him go for a 2nd or 3rd round pick if the player for player scenario doesn't materialize. Either way he's a player worth adding.

I wouldn't mind a Barnett trade because i happen to think he could be the same type of player as Lawson . Trouble is i'm not really sure what i would be willing to give up asset wise to acquire him .
