The kid looks like he has a motor on him.. 6'4" 270 lbs looks like they had him subbing in for Pace regularly...

He was my #1 small school sleeper in the draft a few years ago and I really wanted the Jets to draft him, so I was thrilled when they were able to claim him on waivers. This kid was the Ivy League Player of the Year as a Senior and don't be so quick to dismiss that because its the Ivy League. Fact of the matter is, there were some more heralded players in the Ivy's entering that season and some of them are starting or playing in the NFL right now, but this kid EXPLODED as a Senior and came within one sack of setting a new Ivy League record. He was the most prolific non D1A pass rusher in the country.

Also, he reportedly ran in he 4.7's at his pro day, at 290 Pounds!

Really?

Had quite a few reps, not sure if he had any tackles, might have had 1 hurry. Kind of thought he was just out there

For whatever its worth, someone on another board who claims to have inside knowledge says Catapano was tearing it up on the practice squad, routinely beating our starters in practice, and thats what earned him a promotion.

Also, when Bowles cut Coples, if you recall he said "we have something else in mind", people just assumed his was talking about another player they were going to sign, but I suspect he was referring to Catapano who was promoted after we waived Coples. If what this guy said about Catapano blowing people up in practice was true, thats clearly what Bowles was eluding too, and as you saw today, it wasn't just a promotion for depth or special teams, he actually had Catapano out there on defense today playing meaningful football.

Had two hurries. One where he came within a split second of sacking Tannehill before he delivered a garbage time TD to Landry, but he was so close that he blasted the living hell out of Tannehill and it was a legal hit.

Not knocking the kid, but he also had that major missed tackle in the 4th, that led to a big gain. We'll see how he develops, Bowles seems to like him, got quite a few reps.

I also noticed at the very end of the game, when they were trying to get a pass rush out of 3 guys, who they used for the the pass rush was Mauldin, who got a sack and Reilly, who had 2 solo tackles and at least 1 QB hurry.

Like I said I'm not knocking

I saw a lot to like from #53. He seemed to be fast and strong, and he was a pest for their OLine. He looked a bit gassed in the fourth, so that's why Mauldin (who played really well yesterday) was used so much more on that last drive. At least that's what I think.

Catapano reminds me a bit of Babin. A few more years, he could be a solid productive player who keeps improving.

He could also be this year's Spadola. Remember that guy?

I hold out hope with each of these good story guys. Mauldin looks like he's paying off. I hope Catapano is the goods. He looked it.

Mauldin was the guy that impressed me. In 38 snaps he contributed quite a bit. A sack, a TFL, and 2 QB hits. I'd also like to see Reilly get a few more reps.

In 7 snaps two tackles, and a QB hurry.

Reilly Got hurt and left the game very early...

Anyone have an update on his injury?

Lou, Reilly was on the field for the Fish's last series. That's when he got his 7 snaps. They were using him as a pass rusher

He very well might have gotten banged up during the game, left for treatment and returned. I remember he was on because they were using some odd combinations at the end trying to generate a pass rush out of 3 guys.

Reilly, Mauldin, Richardson, and at times they rushed Catapano did a decent job.

That sucks, I feel bad for the kid. Like I said in the game day thread, he already has more career sacks than Vernon Gholston. 1.
