Identity on defense

Todd Bowles is a 3-4 coach who is trying to incorporate 4-3 scheme which to this point has back fired... Kacy Rodgers coming from Miami ran the 4-3 defensive line so there is experience there but this team is not built for those adjustments unless we are willing to remove two to three starters and make them situational role players to get the best in a 4-3 alignment...

This defense is experienced and has depth in talent but it is being misused right now and we need to fix it starting from up front... I like McClendon thought he would be an excellent addition to this d line, but in the 3-4 our 3 best d linemen excludes McClendon...

Yes I know we signed McClendon to replace Damon Harrison and the lack of confidence on the return of Mo Wilk...

But now that we have four capable starters we don't need to play Sheldon Richardson at OLB...

Stay true to our base defense and work with it, but don't get cute...

These three will dominate the run defense with Mo over the center... I believe these three can collapse the pocket... When we switch to nickel or some type of four down linemen then add McClendon to the field... When one of these three need a blow, then they can switch Mo to either end position to install McClendon at NT his true position... This way we will be able to get the full ability from this crew... Richardson is not capable to be an every down outside linebacker, even partially...

Setting the defensive line allows them to get creative with the linebackers and secondary...

So lets look at our Defense as a whole ,thats on the field for 70% of games!

RE Sheldon Richardson & then LB Harris & CB Revis & CB Skine. Thats it on Defense is just 6 guys with some good & some average. Rest of the LB's & Safeties are AWFUL !! Cant put 6 guys with a bunch of crap on the field for 70% of games & expect to do well. Our Defense was over rated last year & this year & cant carry this Jets Offense like Rex Ryan Defensive schemes did. Rex had just as bad or worse from Idzik taking all CB's & giving Rex less players Bowles have & still did better. Remember Rex saying to teams," If you hit 1 of our guys, we will take out 2 of yours" So where was Bowles in the Defense face after Zona about knocked our WR teeth out? I didnt see any of the Defense going out to knock the crap out of Cards Players. No Motivation by Bowles & he cant get on Gaileys pathetic play calling because he is in his SKY BOX.

Last night was the first time I saw anything positive this season from Buster Skrine getting physical at the line of scrimmage with receivers and was finally impressed with his attempt but his stature and lack of change of direction skill set makes him a liability... He is a nickel corner but because of the scheme we are running he would hardly get on the field...

Revis should be moved to free safety just because he is the only man cover corner on the roster with immense experience at being a ball hawk... He would be the coverage over top to any corners we are starting... Gilchrist has limited coverage ability but along side Revis it will increase his production...

David Harris is still a good middle linebacker, he never was a dominate cover guy but did okay in that feat... This is why we drafted Darron Lee to eventually replace Harris at that Mike Role... Lee might not have the thumping ability against the run but he has been getting better with his tackling and because of his athleticism he could be that cover guy we wish Harris should be...

This isn't Rex Ryan's defense and Todd Bowles doesn't have to continue how Rex coached most of these players but they need to define the defense and utilize these players to fit the game plan they are trying to execute each week...

Todd Bowles is emotional behind the scenes head coach, it is because he doesn't wear his emotions on his sleeve in front of the media so the fans can see isn't fair to judge his coaching ability... He is trying to put the best players on the field but trying to incorporate a 4-3 defense with a 3-4 base lineup has to be trashed at this point it has been a failure...
