I just have this feeling that Todd will be retained unless he goes 3-13.
Enough is enough, with the scrutiny without all the facts..
Todd Bowles is the right guy for the job he is NOT Rex Ryan who leaves his emotions on his sleeves... Todd Bowles has a laid back demeanor the players have taken to him in a way that is not shown publicly... Can not guarantee coaching staff changes won't be made but there is no reason to abandon this process where there has been clear improvement with individual players throughout the roster...
Brian Winters took leaps and bounds from last year to this year...
Ben Ijalana showed he can be dependable as a starting left tackle...
Wesley Johnson drafted as a right tackle, claimed by the Jets moved to guard now is an acceptable center in place of oft injured veteran Nick Mangold...
Bryce Petty showed clear cut improvement from last preseason to this preseason...
Marcus Williams has taken another step in the right direction to being a true starter...
Rontez Miles, who oh yeah fan favorite earned his role...
Deon Simon developed into a young stud...
Bilal Powell found speed, dude is not a young buck...
this regime found three sleeper prospects in Charone Peake, Jalin Marshall & Robby Anderson among others like Doug Middleton, and Brandin Bryant...
To say they have issues is growing pains at its finest... This team last year was not suppose to be competitive, this year is a product of what last year was suppose to be and it started in the off season with all the distractions... Fitzpatrick distractions... There was no continuity on the field with offensive players especially the newly drafted or signed players never was able to build that chemistry on the field that showed all season long... Yeah Fitzpatrick got paid, and he showed even he is human -- without those off season workouts he the main person that knows this game plan/play book inside out was also affected by not building that chemistry with his team mates in the off season...
Not making excuses for the team's lack of producing... But stating facts not everything is in black n white... Some can be said the stalled negotiations were on Fitz, could of said same for the front office holding out... But how does that relate to the coaching staff that has no say in contract negotiations...
Players that are likely done with Jets will say again, the big names:
Darrelle Revis
David Harris
Eric Decker
Brandon Marshall
Nick Mangold
I know three of those are hard to swallow but the cap casualty of the situation will open up important funds for us to continue to develop this roster moving forward... Could any of those five come back on a lesser one year deal, sure but will they take the pay cut?
Other players likely gone in free agency are:
Brian Winters (gonna price himself out of NY -- seeking $7 - 9 M annual {Carpenter on the books for $6.8 in '17 & '18})
Antonio Allen
Ryan Clady ($10 Million team option)
Josh Martin (too much talent on psquad not to give them a shot)
Mike Catapano (will get a nice hefty payday more than he would get here)
Rontez Miles (proved he is a competent starter if given the chance)
Geno Smith (never got a real chance to prove his worth)
Players who are likely done with the team due to sub par play:
Buster Skrine
Breno Giacomini
Nick Folk
Matt Forte??? (Could, Should we trade him?)
There are too many what if scenarios yet to be played out but there are some writings on the wall that are not being read correctly... This team is in year two of a rebuilding mode with a slight chance of win now approach as long as the veterans that are here carry the young bucks... Injuries no one can predict but developing a roster with first and second year players which consists of almost 50% of the roster including an additional 10 practice squad members there are going to be bumps in the road...
Your point has some validity but the reasons are all correct... Blame belongs to the overall design tactics on how they are trying to overhaul the roster but in doing so we have found some star gems in this mess... I expect at least these 8 players to be in real consideration for active roster spot next season:
NT Brandin Bryant
FS Doug Middleton
CB Bryson Keeton
OG Craig Watts
LB Freddie Bishop
LB Taiwan Jones
LB Victor Ochi
SS Ronald Martin
Other notable players that are on injured reserve may also be inline for a roster spot like:
RB Romar Morris
DE Lawrence Thomas
DE Julien Obioha
TE Braedon Bowman
Nothing is for loss but this team has potential and needs to complete the overhaul before we can see the real progression of this roster that General Manager & Head Coach are trying to achieve...
Mediocrity is trying to win now, signing all veterans through free agency while not developing players to be the future of the team... That is what we were with Tannebaum and Idzik... This regime believes in the draft process, finding sleeper prospects and developing talent from the ground up, but no one ever said it would be an over night process... Sit back and try to enjoy the ride, it will get better I guarantee it...
