If Bowles is retained; What changes can be made?

I just have this feeling that Todd will be retained unless he goes 3-13. I just find it hard to believe that they wont squeeze out another 3 wins for a 6-10 over all record. Still underwhelming considering the talent we had on paper for this team.
I honestly feel there will be a major shake up in players and the coaching staff.

Coaches that will be gone:

DC Kacy Rogers

OC Chan Gailey

QB Coach Dave Patullo

DB Joe Danna

Players:

Darrelle Revis

David Harris

Sheldon Richardson

Buster Skrine

Ryan Clady

Brandon Marshall

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH,

We should have veteran leadership though it seems that this locker room is in disarray and it begins with the coaches for not instilling the right discipline on and off the field. There is absolutely no accountability whatsoever. Ryan Fitzpatrick has been a disaster, YET he is still remains the starter. Coach Bowles has to feel the heat as well by releasing the majority of the coaches he brought in. Get some one in here that can possibly over take him if the season goes south next season. Hell, get Doug Marrone to coach up our O-Line.

Sick and tired of this mediocrity.

1st of all, they won't win 6 games IMO. They simply are not good enough (right now) to win another 3 games. I figure they could easily be in competition with teams like the 49ers and Dolphins, but honestly those teams are BETTER coached than the Jets. So I will only believe that when I see it.

For me, you can make all the coaching changes you'd like, if you don't change the most important coach, nothing will ever change for the better. Todd Bowles is a terrible HC and everyone knows it. Some may think it, but would still never admit to it. But the striking majority knows how bad Todd Bowles is. He's been forever exposed for the horrible HC he is.

I also agree with you that if the Jets finish off the season 3-13, Todd Bowles SHOULD be fired. Most everyone had high hopes this season, they all predicted at least a 10 win season. Hopefully, now that everyone has seen this season go so horribly awry, maybe they will understand that this starts at the top. I mean NO ONE saw the defensive line and WR's playing as horribly as they have played. Those are two areas that have such an abundance of talent that there's just no earthly reason besides coaching that they are faltering the way they are.............

The state of this team is similar to an expansion team. There are few potential pro bowl players and no coaches worth their salary

I am usually not a proponent for this but it's time to blow up the franchise and start over

The number of changes needed here are too numerous to reasonably expect any success for many years to come

i'm aware of the threads premise & we can still make all of the changes you listed.. hell, lets even say most of the changes are for the better.. to what end though?? sweeping changes only to retain the biggest problem is still a formula for continued failure..

the only time bowles seem to throw his weight around is when he reminds the the press/the fans that he doesn't answer to maccagnan..

which leads me to believe if bowles is back next season, petty or hackenberg have almost no chance of winning the starting job in '17.. my guess is if bowles is still not answering to maccagnan, he will do everything in his power to convince woody to get him another available veteran JAG QB to be his starter.. you know, "if healthy, _______ gives us the best chance to win.."

sound familiar mind numbingly familiar??

It sounds embarrassing for me when I am typing it, but I think we should all HOPE that the Jets lose out? With virtually no indication of Bowles being on the hot seat, what is left to hope for? I mean the product has suffered so badly that now it isn't even enjoyable to sit down and watch the game?

By losing out, it actually MIGHT persuade Woody to make a change? And to your end, I agree you can make all of the changes that you'd like with the CS, if you don't change the most important coach, you'll never get the change for the better.

I know this has to be hard for you? You are a very optimistic person normally, you told me prior to the season that you believed this team would win 10 games again this season? So seeing this abomination has to be shocking to you?

For me this isn't so bad because I never believed they would be successful this season any way. But I must say that the way this has happened is as shocking to me as it is to you. I NEVER expected Todd Bowles to be so poor at coaching traditional STRENGTHS of the Jets team like the DL and the WR's. I never expected the defense overall to be as bad as it is. This was Bowles' supposed strength?

i was cautiously optimistic maine.. my thinking was if bowles had taken some of his rookie season failures to heart, i really did see us being a 10 win team this season.. but not only hasn't bowles grown as a HC, he's regressed badly..

the combination of that & what ended up being as tough as predicted early start to the season, bowles has been completely exposed..

his lack of passion is only matched by his ineptitude..

The worst possible thing is we won 10 games. i believe TB believed he was a good HC based on the team's play.... he actually believed the hyped and figured he didn't need to make any changes...

Like all of you I am hoping that they lose...something I never every would say but I am there. He is just a very bad HC and the CS is really piss poor also. So for me I hope they lose big today and are NOT competitive the remainder of the year...

Like Main that is the only hope I have that Wood will come to his senses and fire this stiff.

Bowles will be retained. But he needs to dump Kacy Rogers (who I didn't think was worth a shit in Miami) and dump Gailey, who the game has passed by. Bring in Norv as OC and Jim Schwartz as DC , and all will be well in Jet land next season

Why would Schwartz leave Philadelphia for the lowly Jets? And what makes anyone think the game hasn't passed Norv by.

I just have this feeling that Todd will be retained unless he goes 3-13.

Enough is enough, with the scrutiny without all the facts..

Todd Bowles is the right guy for the job he is NOT Rex Ryan who leaves his emotions on his sleeves... Todd Bowles has a laid back demeanor the players have taken to him in a way that is not shown publicly... Can not guarantee coaching staff changes won't be made but there is no reason to abandon this process where there has been clear improvement with individual players throughout the roster...

Brian Winters took leaps and bounds from last year to this year...
Ben Ijalana showed he can be dependable as a starting left tackle...
Wesley Johnson drafted as a right tackle, claimed by the Jets moved to guard now is an acceptable center in place of oft injured veteran Nick Mangold...

Bryce Petty showed clear cut improvement from last preseason to this preseason...
Marcus Williams has taken another step in the right direction to being a true starter...
Rontez Miles, who oh yeah fan favorite earned his role...
Deon Simon developed into a young stud...
Bilal Powell found speed, dude is not a young buck...

this regime found three sleeper prospects in Charone Peake, Jalin Marshall & Robby Anderson among others like Doug Middleton, and Brandin Bryant...

To say they have issues is growing pains at its finest... This team last year was not suppose to be competitive, this year is a product of what last year was suppose to be and it started in the off season with all the distractions... Fitzpatrick distractions... There was no continuity on the field with offensive players especially the newly drafted or signed players never was able to build that chemistry on the field that showed all season long... Yeah Fitzpatrick got paid, and he showed even he is human -- without those off season workouts he the main person that knows this game plan/play book inside out was also affected by not building that chemistry with his team mates in the off season...

Not making excuses for the team's lack of producing... But stating facts not everything is in black n white... Some can be said the stalled negotiations were on Fitz, could of said same for the front office holding out... But how does that relate to the coaching staff that has no say in contract negotiations...

Players that are likely done with Jets will say again, the big names:

Darrelle Revis
David Harris
Eric Decker
Brandon Marshall
Nick Mangold

I know three of those are hard to swallow but the cap casualty of the situation will open up important funds for us to continue to develop this roster moving forward... Could any of those five come back on a lesser one year deal, sure but will they take the pay cut?

Other players likely gone in free agency are:

Brian Winters (gonna price himself out of NY -- seeking $7 - 9 M annual {Carpenter on the books for $6.8 in '17 & '18})
Antonio Allen
Ryan Clady ($10 Million team option)
Josh Martin (too much talent on psquad not to give them a shot)
Mike Catapano (will get a nice hefty payday more than he would get here)
Rontez Miles (proved he is a competent starter if given the chance)
Geno Smith (never got a real chance to prove his worth)

Players who are likely done with the team due to sub par play:

Buster Skrine
Breno Giacomini
Nick Folk
Matt Forte??? (Could, Should we trade him?)

There are too many what if scenarios yet to be played out but there are some writings on the wall that are not being read correctly... This team is in year two of a rebuilding mode with a slight chance of win now approach as long as the veterans that are here carry the young bucks... Injuries no one can predict but developing a roster with first and second year players which consists of almost 50% of the roster including an additional 10 practice squad members there are going to be bumps in the road...

Your point has some validity but the reasons are all correct... Blame belongs to the overall design tactics on how they are trying to overhaul the roster but in doing so we have found some star gems in this mess... I expect at least these 8 players to be in real consideration for active roster spot next season:

NT Brandin Bryant
FS Doug Middleton
CB Bryson Keeton
OG Craig Watts
LB Freddie Bishop
LB Taiwan Jones
LB Victor Ochi
SS Ronald Martin

Other notable players that are on injured reserve may also be inline for a roster spot like:

RB Romar Morris
DE Lawrence Thomas
DE Julien Obioha
TE Braedon Bowman

Nothing is for loss but this team has potential and needs to complete the overhaul before we can see the real progression of this roster that General Manager & Head Coach are trying to achieve...

Mediocrity is trying to win now, signing all veterans through free agency while not developing players to be the future of the team... That is what we were with Tannebaum and Idzik... This regime believes in the draft process, finding sleeper prospects and developing talent from the ground up, but no one ever said it would be an over night process... Sit back and try to enjoy the ride, it will get better I guarantee it...
