This team has a collection of hot garbage at TE and we had two stud TE prospects staring us dead in the face, Gerald Everett and Adam Shaheen, not to mention arguably the best CB in the draft, Sidney Jones, not to mention Dalvin Cook, ALL OF WHOM went quickly with the next six picks, and we took a second Safety?

Drafting like this is a textbook example of how you go nearly fifty years without another SB appearance.

Joe Benigno is right, ownership changes, management changes, the GM changes, the HC changes, the assistant coaches change, the players change, but the results never change with this franchise .... never ... its always the same f--king clown car.

It''s a rebuild, bro and it's not going to be pretty this upcoming season. Having said that, there's a piece of me that's optimistic that MM
is building a solid foundation.

Lets see what day 3 brings.

I have been a Jet fan forever. This tandem of McCagnan and Bowles has me pining for the glory days of Kotite, Charlie Winner, and Idzik. McCagnan is flat out incompetent. We had four picks in the first two days with (excluding QB) 4 dire needs: CB, EDGE,S and TE. In addition, if we had a GM who could think ahead, (I would settle for one who could think at all) we could have used a RB or ILB also. For three weeks I thought of all kinds of scenarios we where would trade down in the first or even 2nd round and pick up two extra picks in the top 100 and come away filling all six needs. We had the sixth pick in the 1st round and the 7th pick in the 2nd round and an early and late 3rd round pick. The draft is historically deep in those positions.

What did we parlay those 4 premium picks into? We parlayed them into 3 picks and a 4th round pick and an extra 5th and 6th round pick. We did not address TE, CB, EDGE or RB or ILB.

Does this guy have any concept of what he is doing? In the first round Sal Palantonio said that the phone was ringing off the hook. Mac could not find an acceptable trading partner to parlay that pick into additional picks? In the second round it seemed like every pick before the Jets was a trade down. But not the Jets! No. We couldn't risk going down 10 spots and picking up another third and losing Marcus Maye.

The two trades he did make were horrible. Most of the other trades made by the other teams yesterday approximated the trade chart value. When our boy traded the 6th pick in the third round down nine spots he should have gotten Minnesota's fourth round pick. He got their fifth. Two minutes later the Pats trade down 11 spots in the third round and picked up a 4th (they also threw in a 6th) and came out with the value they should have. BTW I like what the Pats did with their 2 third round picks yesterday better than what we did with a 2nd and two thirds.

Then we traded down 17 spots out of the third round into the fourth round. We should have gotten Tampa's 5th rounder but instead we got a 6th rounder. This is all reminiscent of the trade down in the 3rd round a couple of years ago with Houston when once again we got a round less in value than we should have.

Then in an historically deep draft in TEs. Edges, CBs and RBs he completely whiffs. Sure he will probably have a couple of decent picks today. So could my grandmother and she's dead. I would prefer he trade every one of today's picks for picks next year when we have a GM who is hopefully more competent. Last year's roster had 4 QBs and 4 TEs and between those 8 players taking up 16% of the team we did not have a decent QB or TE. That was so much fun these guys have decided to do it again. We went into this draft with more than one expert saying we have the worst roster in the league and on day two we came out with Marcus Maye and Adarius Stewart? Great job Mac! The worst kind of GM to have is one who thinks he is smarter than everyone else in the room when he should only be trying to prove that he is just as smart as everyone else in the room. There was no need to be cute yesterday. All he had to do was take three picks with the best players on the board in three of those needed positions and we all would have been happy. But that was too obvious, Mac had to show us how smart he was. In my heart I believe we have downgraded from Idzik big time and i am no fan of Idzik. The only question i have left about this regime other than the exact date of their termination is the question i would like to ask Ron Wolfe and Casserly: Really??? These guys? If Wolfe and Casserly had chosen Ham instead of this clown this draft would have me on cloud nine. Instead i am not even looking for to the next four rounds. These guys have beaten me down.

Mac and Toilet hate the Jets safeties and a WR?? Granted, Calvin Pryor was pushed on Mac and Toilet, but he rest are acquisitions by Mac?

So Mac hates two of the very players he either acquired on his spending spree and now he has buyers remorse? Now that there's a rookie salary cap in place, Mac got Devin Smith on the cheap and I guess now he has drafters remorse with him?

Near as I can tell Pryor, Gilchrist, ans Smith are on the trading/cutting block??

So by Mac's own actions, he has now admitted to Toilet and himself that his moves in 2015 sucked. He is now trying to unf*ck all the damage he's done since coming to NY.

What this means over the long haul is if you thought this rebuild was going to take 5 years you are gravely mistaken? Mac only potentially improved the secondary. The Jets still don't have any corners, linebackers, OL, or QB's. In other words, through two days of the draft, Mac has always talked about the virtues of draft and how that's the way to build your team, Mac has set the Jets up for a Cleveland Browns type season and meanwhile Mac still has that smug, arrogant look on his face?

So are you optimistic that this is actually BETTER in the win column in 2017?????

We got to of the best safeties in the draft and the consensus best WR left on the board ( I wanted Godwin truth be told) with our first 3 picks. Thats a good first 2 days.. we have 6 picks today in a loaded draft except for 2 positions OL and QB... We have a lot of holes to fill. Let's see how it all plays out. We needed to trade down in the first to improve to OL with either Bolles or Ramcyzk and 6 wasn't a spot ppl wanted to trade to to grab anyone. Next years draft is loaded with QB and OL. This years OL class is weak. But there is a lot of 4-5th round graded guys in this draft so lets see what happnens today. Going in we all knew this was a rebuild that doesn't happen in 1 offseason... If we can get a TE and CB today I'll be happy... Those 2 positions still have a lot of talent left on the board as well as LB's and the previously stated OL.

I think the best part of this travesty is how Maccagnan was played in the two trade downs... Teams moving up shouldn't get the better end of any deal in any round yet twice we got the short end of the deal from Tampa Bay and the Vikings...

From 70th (240) to 79th (190 + 27) (+5th)
From 107th (80) to 125th (47 + 27) (+6th)

any other team would of at least acquired an additional selection next year in both deals but Maccagnan is a fool...
there were 7 good prospects at both our 3rd rounds that would of fill needs, apparently this team doesn't value them as worthy options...

the best part of this day three is to see if someone is going to give us a 6th or 7th for either Sheldon Richardson and/or Calvin Pryor which would make this year's draft a true joke...

I agree with Wicker. This is a rebuild. The Jets had a crap roster. Every position they could have picked is a position of need. They are trying to build a mean secondary and are almost there. Think about the future not just what they can accomplish next year. It's easier to find offense later in the draft and in free agency than it is to find defensive studs. I don't like going back to back on safeties but it isn't necessary for everyone to jump off the cliff.

It's a sunk cost. Better to admit your failures than to expect them to come thru. At least that's one admirable trait that he has.

Mac's firs year imo was a failure but only in hindsight. I can't complain though about what has transpired. I was ecstatic at the way he handled the free agency period. He designed contracts in a way that if they failed they wouldn't hurt the future of the team.

Got to agree Ham. I really liked the Adams pick, and thought, "yeah, finally a great draft" That joy quickly faded in the 2nd. Back to back S's with top 10 picks? With all that talent on the board? Has any team even ever done that? Not to mention they both seem to play the same spot.

Also IMO the strength of this draft was in the 2nd and 3rd rounds, so what do the do? Trade out of the 3rd round, and don't even get true value.

Good Grief

how is pick #39 a top 10 pick? maye had a borderline 1s round grade, so it's not like a reach on the pick. they are both safeties who can play either spot, so to that end they play the same position. but last i checked, teams play 2 and sometimes 3 safeties on the field at a time, so it's not like they can't both be out there together. given all the 2 TE sets we see having 2 quality safeties may come in handy.

in 2010, seattle took earl thomas in the top 10. in the same draft they took kam chancellor (granted later in the draft). that kind of worked out for them.

again, maye wasn't the direction i would have gone, but people are over-reacting on it being a disaster. pryor is on the last year of his deal and hasn't panned out as hoped. gilchrist is hurt. the jets needed an upgrade in the secondary. they just got it.

as to trading out of the 3rd, they traded the last pick of the 3rd for a 4th and a 6th. ok, maybe it wasn't full value according to the gospel that is the chart. but does the depth of this draft suddenly end after the last pick last night? if it's a deep draft, it will flow into the later rounds. they now have an extra 5th and 6th that they didn't have when the draft started thursday.

AS Hobson pointed out Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor were taken in the same draft and everyone knows that defense is built around the safeties... Not Sherman... He's good but he is great because of them.. Our CB's currently on teh roster have talent and these safeties, if they can play to their ability in the NFL, will make that secondary very very good.

And all the knock on Macc in the trades is somewhat warranted but this draft is so deep he had to get back in the 4th round and sometimes you over pay to make that happen and i am ok with that.. Depending on the pick LOL....

They are both top 10 picks in their respective rounds. With the kind of talent that was still on the board, and all the needs the Jets have at a variety of positions you really need two SS?

Under certain circumstances a team might put 3 S's on the field but when you use your early first and 2nd round picks on very similar players just isn't very smart. In a league that is completely slanted to the passing game, why would you completely gear your base D to stop the run?

Adams was a good pick that fell to them, the second S was silly.

Even the WR they took. Fair player who is built more like a RB then a WR, and maybe be OK in a WCO , which the Jets probably will run. Problem is, in all likelihood the entire CS will be fired after the season.

Draft started off well, went in the toilet quickly

I know you have been a Jets fan for quite sometime, so this should not be surprising to you. Either they will screw things up like they usually do or there is a method to their madness that just might work out. We all have to just give it a chance and see what happens. I get your frustration, TRUST, I DO but TB and Mac seem to want to build the defense to their standards first and worry about the offense later. I've been a Jets fan since 82 and been through just as many hard times with this team as most but we can't turn our backs on them now. We should all be used to this by now. Which is a damn shame to say but it is what it is. Rebuilding the right way means being patient and trusting the team, coaches and GM. That's what we'll have to do for now and see where it goes.

Why be logical hob... I am reading the posts and the typical SOJF reaction and wondering what the hell is wrong with the selections? WE needed - badly I might add - safeties that can cover...we got that in both. Pryor is on his way out and has been at best mediocre with his one hit wonders every other game. We just drafted two WR that can run, go over the middle and gee catch the ball... as another poster stated , lets see how the remaining picks go before we get the billboards printed.
