Can we discuss the strategy and tactics that go with being a team with plenty of cap space this season? The cap will likely go down, so a good number of teams will be cap constrained or badly cap constrained. Jets have cap room now and, I think, significant dead money for the coming season that comes off the books next season. So what does that mean - a combo of capology and roster design
1. Bid for the best free agents and spend the cash! Show us the money!
2. Lots of teams will try to backload deals to reduce the hit in 2021 - offer more money in 2021 to convince guys to sign with us
3. Avoid the big flashy free agents - these guys will go at full price. Focus on guys one or two steps down who are - say B+ players. There should be bargains here. Stock up on B+ players at C+ prices as other teams cant or wont spend up?
4. Focus on key positions of need. Use the $$ edge to get the players we want at 2 or 3 key positions
Or something else?
What is the right way to think about using a salary cap edge? And - different question - what will front office actually do?
