Implications of lots of cap space

Can we discuss the strategy and tactics that go with being a team with plenty of cap space this season? The cap will likely go down, so a good number of teams will be cap constrained or badly cap constrained. Jets have cap room now and, I think, significant dead money for the coming season that comes off the books next season. So what does that mean - a combo of capology and roster design

1. Bid for the best free agents and spend the cash! Show us the money!

2. Lots of teams will try to backload deals to reduce the hit in 2021 - offer more money in 2021 to convince guys to sign with us

3. Avoid the big flashy free agents - these guys will go at full price. Focus on guys one or two steps down who are - say B+ players. There should be bargains here. Stock up on B+ players at C+ prices as other teams cant or wont spend up?

4. Focus on key positions of need. Use the $$ edge to get the players we want at 2 or 3 key positions

Or something else?

What is the right way to think about using a salary cap edge? And - different question - what will front office actually do?

actually best fit free agents to Saleh's scheme offensively and defensively, there is about 70% of the FAs want to play for him doesn't mean we are signing them

we have needs not want a big name where we have to throw money to them to attract them, players that want to play here will take a discount like Sherman
again Saleh is known up taking an average player and making him one step below a superstar he gets the most of his players
Focus on key positions of need
that is the point and JD is focusing on building a roster, we don't need a Matt Judon but keeping a Tarell Basham is priority

Joe Douglas is prudent on spending money. He has a number he places on players like he did with Jordan Jenkins last year and was right. JJ was not a 7 M annual player long term we signed him 1 year 3 M... Just let it play out...

All good thoughts. We gotta think long term, particularly with the current state of the roster.

Joe Douglas mentioned when he first got here build through the draft, any players in free agency are stop gap players unless they are coming off their rookie contract they can be considered core Jets...

at the end of the day, there are claimed players like Ty Johnson drafted by the Lions but is a Jet for life if he stays here for his career...
