Is there any worse feeling for a football fan ...

Than your football season essentially being over in the first week of October, before the weather even turns cold?

What an awful, horrible, miserable feeling ... you wait all year for the next NFL season, closely follow the draft and free agency, do all of the projections and you think you might have a pretty good team, and then, BAM, the season is over when you're still wearing shorts and a tee-shirt. Heck, I'm already watching preseason hockey and hoping the Rangers are good.

This is why fans panic when their teams lose on opening day, especially when they squander a home opener they could have won. Most fans know you only play 16 of these in the NFL and if you are not careful, your season can be over before it even gets started.

BTW I feel the same way I felt with the Yankees this year, when it became apparent pretty early on that they were not legit contenders, certain aging vets had to be shown the door, and the situation cried out for a youth movement.

At that point the only interest I had in the team was if and when they started to promote some of their minor leaguers, and when they did they finally made themselves relevant, but it was too little too late, they dug too much of a hole with the washed up vets.

I have the exact same feeling now, specifically with Fitz. I've given up on the idea that this team is making any kind of run this year, especially not with Fitzpatrick at QB, and I know he is not the future either, there's no way he's coming back next year, so I see no real point in continuing to trot him out there in the hopes that he can duplicate what was obviously a career year last year.

For me that ship has already sailed, AIN'T HAPPENING, now I'm just watching a career journeyman on a one year deal take a run at the Jets all-time INT record, and unlike last year (or Namath), without the accompanying TD Passes to at least keep the TD to INT ratio respectable. Nope, now its mostly pain and very little pleasure. Its literally painful to watch. I am getting zero enjoyment out of this, ZERO, and frankly I won't get any enjoyment again until we make the transition to Petty. For me thats the only thing left worth watching this year, the same feeling I got with the Yankees this year when they needed to start the youth movement, unfortunately it took way too long for them to get there, for too long they had delusions about making a run with the aging vets, so I completely lost interest until they finally promoted and played the Gary Sanchez's.

I feel the same way now, wake me up when Bryce Petty gets his shot, until then, watching this team is like going to the dentist.

Sadly; I don't think we turn away from F-Intz until after the Cards game where we could be 1-5......

As a fan, all I want is hope. I feel like there is no hope for the immediate future. I know what Fitz is capable of and we have seen it at his best and still wasn't good enough. I want to see somebody else at QB. Smith for a week or two while Petty gets ready. I have no desire to watch Fitz at QB anymore. We took a swing at it and even though I knew this would be the outcome the Fitz experiment failed. Time to move on. I don't want to see Fitz look good vs garbage teams and we finish 8-8. Lets see if Petty can do anything and if he can't then we tank the season.

Don't think things get any better in Pittsburgh. Did you see what the Steelers did to the Chiefs last night?

I don't think the season is over yet. Sure... we stunk it up yesterday, but the loss was to an NFC team.... so not as much damage as if to a division or conference opponent. The Patsies lost ... so we didn't lose ground. The majority of the teams in the AFC are 2-2, (Bengals and Chiefs especially) and sure the Steelers game is a big one.... but with our schedule, if we can get to 4-4 at the split (and are playing well), 9-7 or 10-6 is a possibility. The Patsies have a much harder schedule in the second half of the season than we do, and just because little girl Brady is back, doesn't mean its a cake walk for them, because the Pats are not as good defensively as they were last year. They haven't really beaten anyone ( Cards, Dolphins, Texans) and hell sexy Rexy shut them out at home) The Raiders will bomb a few games and the wheels will come off the Ravens soon. We just gotta catch the Chiefs, Bills and Bengals at this point. But I will say...... if Fitz and Gailey cant get it together NOW...... youre probably right .... BTW, I have no fear about Arizona. That team is terrible. I have seen each game.... and even Bowles can out coach Arians........

Excellent thread! I have no passion for watching the games or this team period. Until they switch QBs at the least. Worst part about all this is give us a real capable QB and this team is probably 3-1 and a contender this year. But since we don't have that our season is already done and has it even started yet? I thought teams were still in the feeling out stage with the changing of practice and pre season rules.

With Petty (mainly) or Hack, hell even Geno at this point we'll see what they can do. If there's a future there with them. Well not with Geno but atleast he can become trade bait if he plays fairly well. I know this would be the turn out with the six team hack but I didn't think it would be this bad. Sad part now is for whatever reason, they will stick with his sorry ass for about 6 games more knowing our luck.

Make the switch now you idiots and let's see what we have. The season is done anyway, so what's the point of keeping Fitz out there. He keeps this up and he'll be at 20 ints by week 7 or 8. That's worse then Sanchez numbers but atleast he was young and still learning. What's Fitz excuse other then just being garbage as hell? Is it the scheme, well it can't be that because he's with Gailey and he's had his best years with Gailey. Is it the talent around him, he said it himself this is the best talent he's ever played with. Is it the oline, he's hardly been sacked this year. No, he's just garbage people, GARBAGE!!!

Oh just like 75' 76' and 77

This is no indictment on you or any of the "younger Jet fans" but......

This is where I see a difference:
The heart and soul of the hardened Jet fan was born in the 70's
Not one winning season in a decade and three in a row of 3-11 seasons. This was when we played a 14 game season.
1977 being the worst , yes I feel worse than the Kotite years.
4 road games before October 10th first home game lost those road games.
October 24th was mid season and we were done long before that.
Guess what, sat on metal bleachers along with a ton of diehards to the end.
This is why we get the SOJF label. You support your team regardless of wins ,QBs, or coaches. Yes you can bitch and complain but the "hardcore" ole timers have passion every game. Have done it since 71'

Let me clarify, I am a 70's baby. In fact, I was born in 1970. Now I didn't become a Jets fan until 1982 but I've been a Jets fan for over 30 years now. A loyal and die hard Jets fan. So I've paid my dues. I've been there with my emotions in the past of damn near getting into fights in the sports bars. Going to the stadium and screaming at the top of my lunges like I'm truly a player, coach or owner of the team. Arguing and shutting out family, friends and co-workers for days to a week, after a loss. Screaming at the TV at home and wanting to throw the remote through the TV during a loss. I've been there with the stomach aches, headaches, body pains and frustrations in the past. I still get frustrated but not like I used to.

Those days have changed and I've realized it's changed after the Rex and Sanchez days. Before then, I went crazy no matter who was the QB because QB didn't mean as much to me. I felt they should have won regardless who was QB. Now I feel unless you have a defense, oline and running game of the Broncos from last year or Ravens and Bucs then without a franchise QB, you won't win. This is my belief and without that, I believe the Jets aren't going to be a true contender. So why waste all the emotions and passion? Why waste all the energy and stress? Know don't twist my words with loyalty for the team. I will always be loyal and a die-hard Jets fan, I will just be a smart one.

Note: Not saying you or anyone else isn't smart, this is just my way of dealing with the frustrations with our team.

Did you read the whole post? If not, read the note at the end. I didn't say you or anyone else was dumb. This is just how I deal with my frustrations now of being a Jets fan. It's easier for me this way.

All I wanted was for the team to be competitive, play SMART situational FB and not make TOs. What is troubling is that the malaise/funk whatever is happening is permeating the CS and players.

What is discouraging is that Bowles said the secondary mistakes "busted coverages" is not just one person but someone different every week. That is troubling. Usually you can replace someone and it's fixed or simplify the D BUT according to Bowles the D is "as simple as it can be."

That is troubling. We'll see what kind of HC Bowles is in the next few games... if he continues to do what he is doing and expecting something different he is a fool and should get fired at the end of the season. I hope he gets it together.

I guess you acn say I am troubled :(:56:
