Savage posted this in the other thread but I think it deserves it's own place on this board.

Good move in my opinion. He may have been out of football for two years and his previous Head Coaching stint with the Bills was awful but there is no denying that he has done a great job getting the most of out of crappy offensive weapons.

The New York Jets announced Tuesday evening that they have hired Chan Gailey to be the club’s offensive coordinator.

Gailey, who was the head coach for both the Buffalo Bills and the Dallas Cowboys, has previously served as an offensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos (1989-’90), the Pittsburgh Steelers (1997), the Miami Dolphins (2000-’01) and the Kansas City Chiefs (2008).

The Jets will have an introductory news conference for both HC Todd Bowles and GM Mike Maccagnan at the club’s Atlantic Health Jets Training Center at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, which will air both on NYJets.com & JetsApp

For those against this move, he cannot be any worse than Marty Mornhinweg. We'll improve the weapons on offense and we will be much better. Also, don't forget that our young HC will need some teaching on the sidelines. Gailey provides that.

I guess...they know something I don't. Thats what I'm gonna tell myself to feel more confident about it.

I think Gailey will be good for our organization. He sucked as a head coach but has been successful running an offense.

I had my fingers crossed for Gase. We would've had 2 head coaches in a sense. But I'll take it. Gailey has his strong suits. I just hope it works out. Seems risky.

QBs Chan Gailey has been an OC for ALL had best statistical years under him. Everyone entitled to own opinion, but that is irrefutable.

The Jets have their offensive coordinator.

The club announced Tuesday evening it had reached a deal with ex-Bills head coach Chad Gailey to run its offense.

The 63-year-old Gailey has a long NFL track record. In addition to his three-season stint coaching Buffalo from 2010 through 2012, he coached Dallas for two seasons (1998-1999). The Bills were 16-32 in his time at the helm, with the Cowboys posting an 18-14 mark.

Gailey has been an offensive coordinator for the Steelers (1996-1997), Dolphins (2000-2001) and Chiefs (2008).

Fixing the passing game will be a top priority for Gailey. The Jets’ QB play has been a major weakness in recent seasons, and no club threw for fewer yards in 2014. Additions to the depth chart are a certainty, and Gailey figures to have a say in the evaluation of quarterbacks, whether via the draft, free agency or trade.

I've heard that elsewhere too. What's their connection if any?

I think he is a slightly above average coordinator, but he has a history of getting good results from average Qbs. Let's hope for the best

I hope this is what the hold up was in signing him. I also hope it means that the best QB on the team will start on opening day for a change

Bowles gets his man: Jets hire Chan Gailey as O-coordinator

By Brian Costello

New Jets coach Todd Bowles landed the man he wants to run his offense.
The Jets officially hired Chan Gailey as the team’s new offensive coordinator Tuesday after days of speculation and then some doubts that he would get the job.

Gailey, 63, is the fourth offensive coordinator in five years for the Jets, taking over the post Marty Mornhinweg held under former coach Rex Ryan for the past two seasons.

Bowles, who is a defensive coach, targeted Gailey from the moment he was hired, but the former head coach of the Bills and Cowboys had other offers and was mulling his options. A report surfaced Monday a deal might not get done, but that looks like it was posturing during negotiations.

Gailey has been out of football for two years after serving as Bills head coach from 2010-12, when he went 16-32. His offenses finished 25th, 14th and 19th overall during his time there.

The Jets surely were attracted by luring an experienced offensive coordinator to help Bowles, a first-time head coach. Gailey has been the offensive coordinator for the Broncos (1989-90), Steelers (1997), Dolphins (2000-01) and Chiefs (2008). In addition to the Bills, he was also the head coach of the Cowboys (1998-99) and at Georgia Tech (2002-07).

In 10 seasons as a coordinator and head coach , Gailey has had only two top-10 offenses — the 1997 Steelers and 1998 Cowboys. But, to be fair, he has not had a lot to work with at the quarterback position. He has coached Kordell Stewart, Mike Tomczak, Troy Aikman at the end of his career, Jay Fiedler, Tyler Thigpen and Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Gailey has a reputation for getting the most out of players and adapting his offensive style to fit his personnel. Fitzpatrick played well enough under Gailey in Buffalo to land a six-year, $60 million deal. Stewart, Thigpen and Fiedler all had career years under Gailey.
The Jets finished 22nd in total offense and 32nd in passing offense in 2014. They were the No. 3 rushing team.

It will be on Gailey to fix the quarterback position that has been an annual problem for the Jets. Whether Geno Smith remains the starter will be up to Bowles, Gailey and new general manager Mike Maccagnan. If they target veterans, Fitzpatrick may be available. It is unclear if the Texans are ready to move on from him, but a reunion with Gailey would make sense if they do.

Another player who thrived under Gailey in Buffalo and could want to reunite is running back C.J. Spiller, who is scheduled to be a free agent in March. He rushed for 1,244 yards in 2012, but has not had the same success since Gailey left.
