Jahad Woods Scouting Report

Jahad plays fast, flows with the action. He shows smooth lateral agility and short area burst. He has good instincts and awareness to quickly find the ball. He is a bit stiff but makes the clean open field tackle. He gives good effort in pursuit. He is an intelligent player who can play the "MIKE" role. His exceptional instincts and ability to find the ball in traffic makes him a perfect fit inside.

Jahad has good key and diagnosis skills. He quickly locates the ball and shows no wasted motion in getting there. He has adequate lateral agility to avoid blockers. He displays good vision and anticipation. He reads the quarterback to anticipate and is a candiate to play outside.

Areas for Improvement

Woods is saught looking into the backfield occasionally instead of getting to the receiver in the flat. He leaves his feet at times while tackling. He attacks the line but needs work on stacking and shedding blocks. He lacks the strength to blow up fullbacks. He has the bulk strength and length to prevent getting engulfed by better linemen at the second level. He gets caught with the eyes in the backfiedl. He lacks functional strength to shed and take on blocks at the point of attack.

Jahad Woods Career at Washington State

Jahad Woods attended Helix High School in La Mesa, California. As a SENIOR, named to All-State Fourth Team by Cal-Hi Sports, All-CIF San Diego Section first-team, All-East County first-team and All-Grossmont Hills first-team honors. He recorded 58 tackles with 5.5 sacks, two interceptions, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble…scored three touchdowns, all on defense, an 86-yard INT return and two fumbles returned for scores…helped Helix HS to an 11-2 overall record. In 2016 he redshirted his freshman season.

As a RS Freshman, Jahad was named to Pac-12 Conference All-Freshmen First Team by SB Nation…appeared in all 13 games, started final 10. He was second on team with 64 tackles and third on team with 11 tackles-for-loss…recorded 2.5 sacks, interception and forced one fumble. His RS sophomore campaign, he stated all 13 games at WILL linebacker. He was second on the team with 82 tackles. He led the team with four forced fumbles. He recorded 4.5 tackles for loss including three sacks. He recovered two fumbls and picked off one pass.

Following year he started all 13 games at WILL linebacker. He recorded 141 tackles, 4th most in the country, 2nd most in the Pac 12, tied for 5th most in WSU single season history and most by a Cougar since 1991. He recorded first 100 tackle season by a cougar since Peyton Pelluer in 2015. He led the team with 10 tackles for loss. He recorded three sacks, three pass breakups, two force fumbles and one interception.

As a RS Senior was named All-Pac-12 Conference Honorable Mention…named to All-Pac-12 Third Team by Phil Steele…second on team with 31 tackles and No. 10 in Pac-12 with 7.8 tackles-per-game and led team with 4.5 tackles-for-loss…recorded one sack, one interception, two pass breakups and one forced fumble. Returned for a 5th year, as a graduate Jahad was named Preseason All-Pac-12 Conference Honorable Mention (Pac-12) and named to Preseason All-Pac-12 Third Team by Phil Steele and Athlon Sports.
