Jarvis Jenkins has one week to prove his worth

Its been a real quiet summer for Jarvis Jenkins. A lot of people are expecting Lawrence Thomas to be cut and moved to the PS when Sheldon comes back next week. To be honest, that was my first impression as well. But upon further reflection and looking at the way this regime approached the cutdown to 53, I think its a mistake to assume the impressive neophyte will be cut so we can keep the coasting veteran who appears to be resting on his laurels. If we learned anything on Saturday, we learned that resumes alone do not guarantee you a roster spot. Resumes, track records, experience, and even money, nothing will save you if you are not producing and some young kid at your position is.

I'm not saying Jenkins will be cut next week, but it won't surprise me if he (not Thomas) is.

As a vested veteran, is his salary guarenteed by being on the roster week 1?

That being said, I never understood, or liked, the Jenkins signing to begin with. Would have rather signed an ot or something.

if the Jets part ways with Jarvis Jenkins they will have to pay him $2.25 M on top of the prorated bonus he already got of $750K doubt he will be cut...

If thats true, he might be cut today if we add more than one or two waiver claims.

again no way this regime wants to lose more money on cutting someone they just signed... $3 M in dead loss even spread between two years is way too much

Did that stop them from cutting Dee Milliner? I think they have made a statement with the cutdown to 53 that the guys who deserve to be here, will, and the guys who don't, won't.

Sure Geno is an exception because the QB is a separate entity, rightly or wrongly they are not judged by normal standards, and Brandon Shell was absolutely put on scholarship because Mac traded up for him in the 4th RD, but for the most part they cut bait with the guys who weren't hacking it, and kept the guys who earned their roster spots in camp.

there is a total misconception between the two... They signed Jarvis Jenkins he is a proven veteran whereas Dee Milliner not drafted by this regime has proven to be made of glass, with immense talent he can never showcase because he is always on the shelf with an injury...

they wouldn't of paid him a contract that bound them to a massive guarantee 2 year $6 M with $3 M guarantee is too much to just let walk out the door... yes he was limited in preseason but he is a role player going to play situational behind Wilkerson so doubt they want to lose that in the preseason...

as for Geno, don't start the only reason he is still here is now that Bryce is banged up and it is too late to bring in another vet to learn this particular system...

I was just gonna do the same. They gave up on Milliner because they didnt pick him in the first place and he sucked. Same with Amaro, although I thought he could backup Enunwa. Jenkins, even though i wouldnt have signed him in the first place, was this regimes signee, and i have a feeling he will be here for the rest of the year.

This was my thought exactly! I thought Milliner was safe with the guaranteed money but the Jets pretty much felt addition by subtraction and moved on.

I think this administration will do what they feel is in the best interest of the organization regardless of partial financial ramifications.

I think the real reason these guys are gone is poor attitude and poor effort. Amaro had horrific body language and made 0 plays by my account. He was walking around like he was some established talent doing his own program.

Milner, as Elias pointed out to me, looked bad against third and fourth stringers. Why would you give an injury plagued guy who can't defend a college kid, a roster spot?

Most people thought doing that would be insane, but actually it's a very good move. Look, 4 million is chump change in the scheme of things. Milliner is as injury prone as any player I have ever see. Cutting him at least frees up a roster spot and allows Mac to sign someone, ANYONE, that can at least play and contribute. You can count on that guy staying, upright MUCH MORESO than you can with a guy like Milliner. So if you're going to end up with a guy that could possibly have a future and is going to contribute every week over a guy that you do not have any loyalty to and has been proven to be constructed like china, this is a move you should make.........

Well, I love the message that it's sending to all those still on the roster. This just lets players know that they'd better get their a$$es to the facility each and every day if they are injured. The CS had better know they are making every effort to get back on the field. Blood sucking leeches will NOT be tolerated. And honestly, guys like Dexter McDougle, Jace Amaro, and Dee Milliner were nothing more than blood sucking leeches..........

Its also about the ability to contribute on special teams. You can't be a depth player or sub and not be able to play on the teams' units; none of these three contributed therefore are gone. I'm disappointed that they didn't work out, but bravo to the leadership of this team for doing the right thing and letting them go.

Now that we have four TE's, I have to assume a TE will be cut next week when Sheldon returns, so Jarvis is safe.

The question is, which TE goes?

I'm hoping its Kellen Davis ... overrated blocker and a ZERO as a receiver.

How this guy is still in the league is a mystery too me. If you want a blocking TE who can't catch a cold and the other team knows it, so they don't even have to pretend to account for him in the passing game, you can train a backup OT to be that guy, and he'll do the blocking part a lot better than Davis.

have to believe Bostick is the still the goat unless they try to move on of the young TEs to the practice squad which is also a possibility...
