Jeremiah Gemmel Scouting ReportJeremiah is a tougher between the tackles than many expect. He is fluid and quick drop into zone, covers enough ground to be Tampa-2 "MIKE" and knows where the markers are. He displays good closing speed with long arms to drag down quarterbacks and running backs. He has a great feel in coverage. Jeremiah is often arrives at the receiver at the same time as the ball, giving up few yards after the catch. He possesses straight-line speed to stay with or chase down receivers in man. He shows toughness to get under the pads of tackles to bull them, club them upfield to get the inside lane, or fight through blocks for secondary rush when the passer steps up. He can attack the edge with speed and has the flexibility to dip low and under the tackle's reach.

Areas for ImprovementGemmel possesses below-average instincts for the linebacker position. Leaves more plays on the field than he makes. He loses size battle to many tight ends and is easily pushed away on out routes. He doe not have enough speed, power or bulk to fit any LB position perfectly in the NFL. Gemmel must work on using violent hands and defeating cut blocks. Also needs to build a variety of pass-rush moves. He plays with inconsistent hustle. He displays only adequate change-of-direction ability. Also loses his balance too often in the open field. Lacks size to bull rush stronger tackles.

Jeremiah Gemmel Career at SchoolJeremiah Gemmel considered the No. 33 outside linebacker in the country and was a productive player who led East Coweta with 101 tackles, 13 for a loss, four sacks, and six blocked kicks as a senior. Gemmel earned honorable mention all-state honors as a junior after leading the team with 95 tackles. Jeremiah was coached by Steve Pardue. In 2017 Gemmel redshirted his true freshman campaign at North Carolina. As a redshirt freshman, Jeremiah appeared in four games registering one tackle at ECU. Following season he started at inside linebacker for all thirteen games. He ranked second on the team and 17th in the ACC with 84 tackles. He led UNC and tied for second in the ACC with three forced fumbles. He also registered 7.5 tackles for loss. As a redshirt junior, Jeremiah started all twelve games at linebacker, voted team captain. He ranked second on the team with 78 tackles along with seven QB hurries. He also had four pass breakups and six tackles for loss. Gemmel started all thirteen games at linebacker in 2021 season. He finished second on the team with 75 tackles, seven QB hurries, 5.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and one interception with one forced fumble.

Jeremiah Gemmel NFL Draft Player ProfileJeremiah is a long armed MIKE linebacker for the Tarheels. Quick first step in the second level, is able to shoot gaps with good acceleration. Shows good ability to blitz from the A-gap and outside the tackle. Moves laterally well as he scrapes across gaps. Jeremiah is a strong in his gap, doesn’t allow ball carriers to run through him. Gemmel has a fast trigger when coming downhill, looking to blow up blockers or make a tackle. In the passing game, Gemmel has good eyes when dropping in zone coverage. Dropped in deep zones at times and stayed with receivers. Could be used more in man coverage on running backs out of the backfield. His eyes stay in the right spot and are able to read the quarterback. Paired with good instincts, Gemmel is consistently in the right spot to make a play.
