Jets Activate Blake Cashman, Vyncint Smith from IR

The Jets have activated LB Blake Cashman and WR Vyncint Smith from injured reserve and released S Marqui Christian.

Cashman (6-1, 237) was designated to return to practice Oct. 7 after he was placed on injured reserve Sept. 15. The second-year linebacker, who exited the season opener in the first quarter with a groin injury, had 40 tackles, 0.5 sacks, 1 fumble recovery and 1 pass defense as a rookie last season in seven games (five starts) before he was placed injured reserve (shoulder).

Smith (6-3, 202) was designated to return to practice Oct. 7 after he was placed on IR Sept. 7 with a core injury. He caught 17 passes for 225 yards last season in 13 games (4 starts) after the Jets signed him from the Texans practice squad. Smith also returned 10 kicks and averaged 29.9 yards per return.

Christian (5-11, 207) signed with Jets Sept. 23 and played in one game. He signed with the Bears in August and was placed on the reserve/suspended list on Sept. 5 before he signed with Chicago's practice squad on Sept. 21.Christian has 83 career tackles, the majority coming in 2018-19 with the Rams.

Cashman I fear will step on the field for warmups and will be doubtful to return, an injury waiting to happen...

Vyncint Smith coming off a surgery, never really had an injury past and was said to be improving his overall body of work... We know he has deep threat potential but lacked the route running to be an effective all around option at receiver... We knew he was a willing tackler and earned a spot on special teams as gunner which gave him the time to develop... Now post Robby Anderson this is his year well anyone at this point showing something positive would be an improvement... No rookie Denzel Mims this is Smith's time to shine... Perriman also seems to be on the clock to return in South Beach but for me Vyncint can really show up with a veteran QB like Flacco he likes his big targets... Not looking for a 5 catch game over 100 yards but am looking for improvement on his overall game...

A mix of Breshad Perriman, Vyncint Smith & Jeff Smith on the outside
bring in Jamison Crowder from the slot and Braxton Berrios stacking double slot receivers wonder if the passing attack can be more than a screen bonanza for veteran QB Joe Flacco...

hoping that rookie Perine gets a handful of snaps to prove he belongs at this level... would like to see Ty Johnson but now that is getting greedy because we know this is Gase & Gore show on offense...
