26. New York Jets (13th)
Pass-blocking rank: 22nd

Run-blocking rank: 25th

Penalties rank: 19th

Stud: By virtue of his teammates playing so poorly, the strong run blocking of James Carpenter made him an easy pick.

Dud: Poor in the run game and allowing too much pressure, Breno Giacomini did not have a good year.

Summary: Once a dominating group, this was the year that things finally turned, and the Jets line morphed from productive to problem. Nick Mangold and D’Brickashaw Ferguson just aren’t the players they once were, and there aren’t enough factors to overcome that. This line needs some good, young talent.

Restructuring Brick's contract is a necessity. Finding his replacement too. We need to get back to building our oline. I hope that is Mac's first priority.

it's like i said to you earlier today E..

so many ways we can use the 20th pick.. & like FL, i believe mac is going to stick with the "best player available" formula, with all things being equal, need will be the tie breaker..

haven't ruled out if someone mac is crazy about starts to slide, we try to move up from 20 to get him..

the LB at ND comes to mind..

LOLz this from a guy that has only seen the kid in a youtube video gmf put up in the draft lounge..

i almost never take highlight videos very seriously but this kid is absolutely ridiculous!!

IDK 13 I'll be stunned if Macc gives up draft picks to move up. Macc has said many times the way to build a winning team is through the draft. The way to plug holes is FA

Jets only have 6 picks this year, as much as I really like Jaylon Smith, I just can't see them moving up for him.

Giacomini must go.

I remember when the Jets got him, I was wondering why, if he was so good, Seattle let him go.
Then, there was a scouting report posted that said he wasn't really big enough to be a road grader in the running game and he wasn't a great pass blocker, either.
You know what?
The report was right.
Painfully right.

Brick was very good, never great. But he is on the decline.

The Jets need to evaluate as many tackles as possible (draft, trade or free agency) in camp this year for the health and safety of their quarterbacks.

Last good Jets Right Tackle = Damien Woody
Last good Jets Left Guard = Alan Faneca
Last good Jets Right Guard = Randy Thomas?
3 of the 5 OL positions have had a long period drought without a stellar player in them.

2016 draft has to go long on OL.
Maybe 2 OTs & 2 OGs early, an ILB & a CB late, & another QB project in the middle somewhere.
After the draft, the Jets should concentrate on mining the OL UDFA market very heavily and evaluate as many as they can, as quickly as they can, to settle on the best 10 UDFA prospects to bring to camp.

Have to disagree re the Guards

Carpenter played really well all season and may have been our best OL player including Nick

Winters, replacing Colon did a pretty effective job at RG

The tackles OTOH were liabilities and Brick was as bad at LT as Breno at RT

Just curious, but Jet's OL had 2nd fewest sacks allowed and were 10th in rushing yards. Where's the disconnect with PFF's ranking?

Not sure there is a disconnect. The few sacks are largely attributable to Fitz's "ball out" time. One of the most over looked stats for QB's

Brady was first in the league with an unbelievable 2.1 seconds to "ball out" Fitz was 6 or 7th with a 2.7. Just as a point of reference smith was 5.3 last year.

As we saw yesterday if Brady wasn't getting the ball out so quickly, that game would have been a laughter.

When you put the "eye test" to our OT's, Breno was horrible in both run game and and pass protection. Brick seemed to take a big down turn in his pass protection. he was never really a star in the run game

As far as the rushing yards go. The first half of the season Ivory led the league in yards after contact. And in total rushing yards He was getting over 3 yards per carry, AFTER contact.

About half way through the season something happened with Ivory. Think he just got beat up and sore from his violent running style. They couldn't run fora 3rd and 4th and 1 to save their life.

During the win streak at the end of the season Gailey put the game in Fitz's hands. The first half of he seaon it was all Ivory and yards after contact

I had the same thought.

Could changes be made, and long-term plans implemented? Sure.

I have no idea what the methodology was for this, but it seems to not gel with perhaps the two most important OL stats.
