The Jets have released punter Thomas Morstead and signed Kai Kroeger, who played five seasons at South Carolina and has sub-NFL hang time according to scouting reports.

Kroeger led the SEC in number of punts and will look to set similar records at the Jets.

Would not be surprised to see Morstead return. Didn't he get released last off season or am I thinking of someone else? Getting old sucks sometimes....

I get letting Morstead go. His stats if you look were below average and I believe that he turns 40 years old this season. If Kroeger can't improve his hang time significantly he isn't going to cut it. I believe that the punter position was not as bad however as the place kicker position which actually cost the Jets wins last season. Right now.........the Jets best option for making field goals is a guy that can't hit the side of a barn from the inside at over 40 yards. That is the kicker that should have been replaced. IMHO.

I wouldn't be surprised either. They addressed the wrong kicking position first as I stated above. This is a critical position weakness that needs to be addressed before the season starts or they will be leaving points behind in many games.
