FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- First-round pick Darron Lee will miss the first game of his NFL career Sunday.

The New York Jets rookie linebacker, who sprained an ankle in Monday night's loss to the Arizona Cardinals, won't play against the Baltimore Ravens, coach Todd Bowles said Thursday.

It's no surprise, as Lee hasn't made an appearance at practice. He has been spending his days inside, getting treatment. Bowles said he's not sure if Lee will miss time beyond this week.

"I’m hoping not," he said. "It’s still too early to tell. I just know he’s out this week."

Lee, who leads the team with 34 tackles, will have to be replaced in the nickel defense.

Well, there goes the idea that Verne could play and utilize his speed this weekend. It doesn't really matter though, he sucks..........

He's leading the team in tackles, as a rookie. Can't suck that much, although I'm sure you'll come back with some inane response like 'but every tackle was made 10 yards downfield'.

Lee has been good as a rookie.... His role really is predicated upon others... He is doing his part.. His consistency needs to get a little better but he is mostly been good...with a few rookie mistakes...

Lee has been a good addition to our linebacker corps. Not sure why you think he sucks. Can you elaborate on what you do not like?

How many times do I have to go through all of the reasons?

1) Darron Lee is a prototypical 4-3 linebacker. He is NOT, nor will he ever be a 3-4 linebacker. And just you know, Todd Bowles just about all of last season was stubborn in staying in a 3-4. So going into this season all you see is 3-4 and a guy that is being forced to play in a base alignment that he is not cut out for. With that said, toilet Bowles has gone almost entirely as a 4-3 this season and that is much more a philosophy that will allow Lee to contribute. In a hybrid 3-4??? He is a PART TIME player. That is stupidity that does NOT help this team half the time. When you draft a 1st rounder, do you draft him just to have him play PART TIME. That's totally fucking dumb.

2) Where the Jets are playing almost exclusively a 4-3 base defense, the fact is that Verne can play and he is actually leading the team in tackles. But it also makes the defense far less versatile. They are now LOCKED in to a 4-3, if they want to keep Verne on the field.

3) Toilet Bowles is an idiot that thinks Verne is going to play outside? Well, my only question is WHEN?? It has yet to happen.

4) Toilet Bowles also CLAIMS he's going to cover TE's?! What a CROCK OF SHIT! There's NO way he will ever cover TE's and be successful, NO way. Guaranteed. In fact, he already has been put in coverage against Jimmy Graham and he 100% incapable of defending him. He kept up with Graham, but Graham still caught everything thrown his way. He haunted the Jets all day long because Verne was unable to neutralize him.

5) And he WILL get blown the fuck up soon enough. It already happens all the time that he got launched when being blocked by a mere RB in TC. I guarantee you it will happen again. This is just a matter of time. We haven't seen it yet, but it will happen.

6) But the biggest reason is that he is NOT an every down player. Everyone knew that if the Jets were going to be competitive this season against all these playoff teams, they NEEDED a guy that would pop right from the start of the season. They needed an every down player. Darron Lee is also never going to be a pro bowler. He'll never be good enough. And really that is what this team needed coming into this season to hang with the likes of Cincy and Pittsburgh and Seattle and so on.

Verne was never Mac's first pick anyway. As you recall, Mac attempted to trade up and grab Laremy Tunsil. Therefore, you know Lee was not the ideal guy that Mac had in mind. They SETTLED for a part time, situational type player.

Even worse, Darron Lee was supposed to be the guy that put this defense over the top. That's what many idiot fans thinks. You hear it over and over again. Well, instead this defense SUCKS so bad, mainly because this defense CANNOT cover a TE and the entire unit in general is LAZY.

tell us how you really feel...

listen you forgot to mention that the former 4-3 outside linebacker from Ohio State started his career with the Buckeyes as a free safety...

When the Jets are losing, the hyperbole goes into overdrive.

I've been on these forums for years. It's inevitable.
