Jets sign IDL Solomon Thomas

Jets head coach Robert Saleh will be able to work with one of his former charges from the 49ers during the 2022 season. According to multiple reports, the Jets have reached an agreement with defensive tackle Solomon Thomas. It’s a one-year deal for the third overall pick of the 2017 draft.

The 49ers were the team that took Thomas third overall and Saleh was Thomas’ defensive coordinator for his first four professional seasons. Thomas started 30 games over that period, but tore his ACL against his new team in Week Two of the 2020 season. Thomas moved on to appear in every game for the Raiders last season. Thomas has 129 tackles, 9.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery for his career.

interior defensive lineman need to be between 275 - 315, need to be athletic and capable run defenders in this defense. more of a pass rush tendencies from the front 4 while the linebackers and safeties are suppose to penetrate the gaps to stuff the run.

I think he's a decent signing. If he doesn't start he will likely be in the rotation.

I’m ok with this signing as a rotational IDL. Thomas has underperformed, but he still gives us some interior pass rush. Almost seems like Saleh is going all out for some serious pass rush ….

It would be light on the inside in a 3-man front, but with four down linemen, it's not at all bad.

from what i read up on him, at Stanford he played both the inside and the outside, but excelled inside.
The Niners saw tremendous upside for him at DE, but realized he was much better inside.

i am thinking his underperformance might be from all of the time trying to be an End. This could be a "JFM" type of signing.

Was thinking the same thing. Isn't 280 , not a tweener (too big for a LBer, not a 300 lb. interior D lineman)? May there be sacks next to his name!
