The New York Jets have renegotiated QB Matt Simms' contract and have signed eight other players to reserve/future deals.

By renegotiating his contract, Simms will not become an exclusive-rights free agent in 2015. He will be beginning his fourth offseason with the Jets. Last year he was Geno Smith's season-long backup and this year he backed up Smith and Michael Vick, seeing action for one fourth-quarter series in Game 9 at Kansas City.

Here are the eight reserve/future signees:

K Andrew Furney — Furney (5'10", 210) was signed last year out of Washington State after getting a non-roster invitation to kick at the Jets' June full-squad minicamp. His big kick in the summer was a 51-yard field goal with 1:08 left to lift the Jets over the Colts, 13-10, in the preseason opener. That was his only FG try in our preseason games and he added two extra point kicks. Furney did not kick in the NFL this season.

LB Mario Harvey — The 6'0", 264-pound Harvey was an unsigned free agent out of Marshall by Pittsburgh in 2011 and had 14 tackles in 28 career games (no starts) with Indianapolis from 2012-14. He was released by the Colts in October and was signed to our practice squad Dec. 16.

DB Keith Lewis — Lewis (6'1", 190) was an undrafted free agent out of Virginia–Lynchburg by Tampa Bay last May, was a final cut by the Buccaneers, then was signed to the Bucs' practice squad in December.

CB Dashaun Phillips — Phillips (5'11', 185) signed as an undrafted free agent out of Tarleton State with Dallas in May. He was a final cut by the Cowboys in late August and was signed to the Jets practice squad Oct. 7.

OL Brent Qvale — The 6'7", 315-pound tackle was an undrafted free agent out of Nebraska. He participated in 89 offensive snaps for us in the preseason, then spent the entire season on our practice squad.

RB Daryl Richardson — Richardson (5'10", 206) came to the Jets via waivers from St. Louis, where as a rookie he was the primary backup to RB Steven Jackson. He was acquired on waivers by the Jets in May, had 95 yards on 31 carries and 58 yards on three receptions for us in the preseason, and spent the entire season on our practice squad.

P Jake Schum — Schum, like Furney, was signed after being a rookie camp invitee in May. Unlike Furney, he had made the NFL offseason rounds, signing with Cleveland in 2013 and Tampa Bay last year. This preseason he had six punts for the Jets, posting a 40.0-yard gross average and a 37.7-yard net. He spent less than a week on the Buccaneers' practice squad in November.

LB Chris Young — Young (6'0", 252) was signed as an undrafted free agent out of Arizona State by Houston in May. He was a final cut by the Texans and landed on the Jets' practice squad Oct. 29.
