JJ traded

Apparently Sweat is a very good run-stopper and guarantees our first pick will be an edge. The trade frees up a net of over $10 million as Sweat at 24 is still on rookie contract. My uneducated guess is Bailey first with another defender at 16. Also wondering if they will be spending big on an edge, S, or LB in FA, with the Cap space we now have.

Looks a good deal for us, assuming we are drafting an edge rusher at #2 we have traded an injury-prone guy at that position and no longer need to take a DT early in the draft. We also gain cap space because Sweat is on his rookie contract.

I think we all knew that Jermaine was a very likely trade prospect, especially considering that almost every NFL annalist has the Jets picking his replacement with the #2 pick. I think Jermaine's game will take a jump this season because he is further removed from his injury but the upside of any of the top rushers, (younger, talented, cheaper on rookie contracts), in this draft is difficult to resist and the trade also saves the Jets some money with the acquisition of Sweat who is considered a very good nose tackle. If he doesn't wind up as the starter at that position he will be an excellent rotational player.

I hate seeing JJ go, but it's a great deal. Sweat comes in and immediately solidifies the IDL. It also means they are pretty well certainly going edge at #2, probably Reese. And yes, I think we will see some odd-man fronts this upcoming season.

Great deal. Fills a major hole and sends JJ back to Daddy Saleh.
Don't be surprised if Caleb Downs is taken at #2.
He is the Darkhorse imo.
I thought they would go DT at 16 or early in the 2nd. This changes things a little.
This deal gives them a little flexibility in FA and the upcoming draft.
I still expect them too take an edge at 2 but wouldn't be surprised if it was Downs at 2.
Mougey might be a keeper.

I read that Karl Dunbar (DL coach) and Brian Duker (DC) are proponents of the 3-4, so this fills a big hole at NT for the 3-4.
A fine old Jets tradition, switching backwards and forwards between 4-3 and 3-4 such that the guys we already have are a bad fit. It makes Reese a more likely #2 pick if he is providing the pass rush from LB.

As it happens Sweat surprisingly is pretty good, especially for a guy the size of an army tank, at pass defense too.

A good trade for both teams. I think JJ will get back to his prior production a year removed from the injury, was undersized for the 3/4 role he would be playing here this season. Sweat is top 5 at NT and ascending and still has 2 years on his contract. Jets save a bunch of cap space ($13 million)and fill a position of need giving them more flexibility at 16.

Don't forget that the NFL will be salivating at a Saleh-JJ 'revenge game' and will likely make the Titans game the season opener.

I think the Kyler Murray revenge game is more likely to be week 1......
