Johnny is a smooth route runner where he can make separation with his crisp route running. On top of his route running ability. He is a natural hands catcher which helps to protect the ball on certain throws with his quarterback. He lines up on the outside and in the slot. He is light footed and a sudden mover. His lower half is very loose, allowing him to change directions suddenly and easily. He suddenly snaps off routes after threatening vertically making him tough to stick with from off and man to man coverage.

Johnny has a great release super quick off the line of scrimmage. He has excellent agility and dukes defenders in the open field. He has long arms to stiff arm defensive backs in the open field. He is willing to lower his pads to run through tackles for extra yardage. He goes over the middle, can spin out of tackles and take the big hit. Johnson III is a very good athlete with a nice combination size, quickness and length.

Areas for Improvement

Johnson III does not always use his hands to secure deep throws, drops the occasional pass in crucial situations. He has good not elite speed. He may not be able to beat the best NFL corners with speed alone. He sometimes comes off the snap high and upright. He does not always get to top speed quickly.

Johnny Johnson III was a consensus three-star prospect by ESPN, Rivals and 247Sports. He was rated the No. 11 overall prospect in Arizona by ESPN. Johnny caught 77 passes for 1,274 yards and eight touchdowns while averaging 16.5 yards per reception for Chandler’s Arizona 6A state championship team.

Enrolled at Oregon as a freshman, he made 10 starts and played in all 13 games. He totaled 21 receptions for 299 yards and one touchdown. He ranked sixth among Pac 12 freshman in receiving yards. In 2018, one of three Pac 12 players with a receiving touchdown in each of the first three games of the season. He played in all 13 games and made six starts.

Turned in a breakout junior season with team highs in reception (57), receiving yards (836) and receiving touchdowns (7). He finished eighth in the Pac 12 in yards and tied for seventh in touchdowns. He is one of seven FBS players with 10 catches, 200 receiving yards and two touchdowns in a game.

Johnny started all seven games in season shortened by Covid-19. He finished with 19 receptions for 267 yards and two touchdowns. Became the 29th player in program history with 100 career receptions. He returned for a fifth year in 2021. He recorded 25 receptions (10th) all time in program history with 139 career receptions while also ranking 7th single game record in yardage with 207. He also became the eleventh overall career receiving yards with 1,928.

Johnny Johnson III on film the first thing you notice is his love for contact. Every coach admires a receiver who does the dirty work when it comes to blocking and Johnny Johnson III does just that and you can tell he takes pride in his blocking.

He is very passionate about his team and celebrates every time one of his teammates makes a huge play. That shows how he could be such a great teammate and locker room guy. He is the type of player you want on your team, he isn’t selfish and will do whatever it takes for his team to win. He would be an excellent number 2 or 3 receivers on the field and make an impact quickly that way.
