Jonathan Ford Scouting Report

Jonathan delivers a strong punch and uses his hands to shed blocks to make plays in the hole or outside the box. He uses lower-body strength to anchor inside. He is a strong tackler. He has good power in hands and can anchor, shed, and chase. He plays with leverage at the point of attack whether inside or outside. Keeps eyes in the backfield when inside; moves linemen to either side with strong hands.

Jonathan has a tall, solid frame with adequate length and has done a nice job losing the bad weight and firming his body. He can make the impressive chest-to-chest bear hug tackle in the hole due to his ability to wreak havoc in the backfield.

Areas for Improvement

Ford needs to keep his pad level lo, pops upright and plays too tall. He struggles to maintain leverage off the snap. He plays upright and struggles with leverage. Too often stonewalled at the line and doesn't show the hand strength or technique to shed or redirect blockers.

Ford has a quick first step with fluid movements off the ball. He is highly competitive and fierce, showing relentless effort to the pocket with a nonstop motor. He might be limited to one-gap systems. His agility is not a question but misses tackles when he doesn't square and break down. He plays too high at times, and gets carried downfield or put to the ground by better lineman when losing the leverage battle.

Ford's sophomore campaign, he saw action in 10 games…Totaled eight tackles and 2.0 tackles for loss.

He started all 13 games on interior of defensive line. Totaled 18 tackles (seven solo) with 3.5 tackles for loss and 3.0 sacks. Added one PBU and one forced fumble.

Ford must improve on his tackling. A defensive tackle has to be able to bring down a running back on his own and not constantly have to hold onto jersey and wait for help. .
