Just so I am officially on record (day 2 picks I like and I don't like)

Pointdexter

Pro Bowl Alternate
Jet Fanatics
Players I like:

Tyler Boyd
Pharoh Cooper
Braxton Miller
Derrick Henry
Cody Spriggs (love this guy)
Cody Whitehair (another great pick)
Noah Spence (well worth the risk in round 2)
Myles Jack (see above)
Jacoby Brissett (definitely more round 3 or 4)

Players I will bitch about:

Christian Hackenberg (anyone who actually watched college football wants no part of this guy. The excuses made for him are ridiculous)
Mackensie Alexander (doesn't have it between the ears)
Michael Thompon
Vonn Bell
***Really any DB I will be pissed about*** (we spent about 30 million so we wouldn't have to address DB one year later)

In 2014 Idzik had 12 picks, most of which were NOT in line with conventional thinking. This was either going to make him a genius or a shmuck, and we all know how that played out.

Macc apparently thinks highly of Hackenburg -- if he didn't act on that instinct what type of GM would he be? I'm not saying this pick makes or breaks him, but his scouting history at least increases his chances of not being Idzik 2.0 (I HOPE) . . .

Just for clarification, I wrote that prior to the start of round 2. I wanted to be on record so people would know where I stand on certain prospects before going to their respective teams. That's fine that Macc has his opinion on CH, I respect that but I also have mine own that will not change based on him. He puts his cajones out for this kid and he will be tied to this pick the same way Idzik was tied to Geno.

The difference is Idzik/Rex forced Geno to start year 1, hopefully Fitz will be the starter this year and Hackenberg will develop before being thrown to the wolves. We have a much better football operation now with the adults in charge.

My point was that this draft feels like Idzik's in 2014 -- we'd see a ton of "worthy" picks every time we were on the clock, and each time he picked someone out of left field. While Macc only had 1/2 as many picks as Idzik, Jordan Jenkins is the only one I considered "sensible" so far, and not sure what he could do in the 7th that would change that impression.

All I can do now is hope he knows better, a sentiment that was unwarranted 2 short years ago . . .

Great post and spot on with the comparison. This is the same feeling from that 2014 draft. Our pick would come up, and players were on the board that made tons of sense and we had talked about on the message boards for months, and then Idzik would make a pick out of left field, leaving us with the wind sucked out of our sails.

Round 1 we will regret not taking Paxton Lynch. Round 2 we could have had Cody Whitehair. Round 4 Pharoh Cooper was picked one spot ahead of us.

Certainly wasn't the most memorable Jets draft class in recent memory, even though the draft was unusually deep in some areas.
Unfortunately those areas were ones the Jets really didn't need to address.

Might regret it in 3 years. We got faster and younger at LB which was vital. Not sure we can compare this draft to Idzik '14 draft, but time will tell.
