Keir plays with leverage at the point of attack whether inside or outside. He keeps eyes in the backfield when inside; moves linemen to either side with strong hands. He is a high-effort, thickly built defender with good strength and the leverage to create a pile. Thomas locates the ball quickly and pursues with passion, showing_ good lateral agility while extending the play to the sideline.

Keir has coordinated with smooth movement skills. High-effort rusher and works through the whistle. Relentless worker, fighting off blocks and battling to the ball. He is a strong tackler. Has good power in hands and can anchor, shed, and chase. He flashes strength at the point of attack with active, violent hand use. Forceful with his upper body to defeat blocks. Strong hustle player.

Areas for Improvement

Thomas lacks the speed to turn the corner consistently and is too often washed out by stronghanded blockers. He is not a quick-twitch player. He won't consistently threaten the edge. He has few explosive qualities and lacks great initial burst or overall range for the position.

Keir misses tackles, even when he gets his hands on the ball carrier. He needs to improve hand placement and technique. He lacks overpowering strength and can stick to blocks. Keir lacks explosive speed to bend and flatten off the corner with stiff hips and ankles. He is not flexible or fluid. Has average athletically with average straight line speed and tight hips. Not a natural bender. Lacks secondary pass-rush moves.

Keir Thomas II appeared in 47 games with 32 starts in five season at South Carolina. He recorded 142 tackles, including 18.5 for loss with 8.5 sacks and eight quarterback hurries. Keir transferred to Florida State with the extra year of eligibility due to the Covid-19 2020 season. He started all 12 games and recorded 42 tackles, including 12 for loss with 6.5 sacks. He also recorded 15 quarterback hurries and one pass breakup.

Keir Thomas shows he can play on the edge as a big end or slide inside as a penetrating 3-tech. He can also do the same on the edge. He has the quickness inside against guards and the ability to anchor on the edge. He plays with good leverage as a 6’2 prospect. He engages the guard and uses explosive hands to gain inside position. From there Thomas is in control and is able to work a pass rush move to defeat the guard. Thomas' technique is spot on tight elbows, footwork, and shed are just textbook.
