Liam Shanahan Scouting Report

Liam is a solid positional run blocker who flashes the nasty demeanor and killer instinct scouts covet. He anchors well and plays with the low center of gravity and natural bend to seal the inside lanes. He has violent hands with hustle to close off the bubble screens and lead to flatten linebackers. Has a nasty demeanor and is highly coachable. He gets everything out of his adequate frame with good length. He flashes functional strength to get a good push in the run game. He could develop into a solid backup and eventual starter in the NFL. He anchors against larger defenders in the middle, resets hands to maintian distance. He is athletic enough to help on the nose tackle then pick up twist or late blitzers. He mirrors quick interior rushers, and always looks to assit either guard when uncovered.

Areas for Improvement

Shanahan isn't an elite quick twitch blocker, leaks inside pressure when his technique gets sloppy. He will punch at smaller defenders instead of latching on and is more of a mauler than mover in the running game. He can improve maintaining outside leverage when doubling the nose. He ducks his head and gets too upright which causes him to fall off the second level blocks. He needs to be more consistent to move his man with his hands. He needs to work on his technique in pass protection, using more consistent leverage and continuing to move his feet.

Wolf Award in 2019 as Harvard’s top interior lineman.
