I like the move, especially early in free agency. Mac knows the the LT position needed repair. Beachum needed more time to heal, the Jags took a big chance on him. Wasnt the same player as he was with Pittsburgh though many time with those ACL, it needs two solid years to solidify. With the proper treatments that the Jets medical staff will give him, i'am very confident Beachum will revert back to his early days with the Steelers style of dominat play.
As far as our OLine is concerned. I like the direction we're headed.
Wesley Johnson played exceptionally well in Mangolds absence. He's young and now ha some valid game time experience.
Brian WInters stepped up his game 10 fold last season. Would'eve been a pity for him to sign elsewhere. I liked the aggressiveness by Macagnan to make him his 1st priority re-signing.
Carpenter is just a mauler and glad he's pegged at LG for the next 2 seasons.
The big question is Brandon Shell. What i'am about to type is not only true about the RT position but possibly all the young players that have been and will be acquired by our GM:
DEVELOPMENT. It really seems (like it or not) that Mike and coach Bowles have a plan for these young kids. Not to use the old and deterioting method that we have been accustomed to:
" JUST RUSH THEM OUT THERE. ESPECIALY IF THEY'RE A HIGH DRAFT CHOICE"
Brandon Shell in preseason looked horrible in '16. He had Bryce Petty murdered as a defender used him as a "Wayne Hunter", blew by him and destroyed Petty to be placed on the injury list.
Many including myself looked at Shell from that point as having no Gene relation with his unlce Art Shell. Though as the weeks progressed, under the radar, the Jets coaching staff worked with Brandon until the team felt it was time.
He was a completely different player. He improved week to week. He seemed as the trade on draft day was justified. It looks very apparent that, barring any injury that he will be our starting right tackle.
I honestly feel the same with Christian Hackenberg. ( i promise i will not make this into a QB thread). The team invested a VERY HIGH 2nd rounder. The season went south. Ben Ijalana was our starting LT. That is not good. He is a good to average pass blocker at best. he's a backup. Fitz and Bryce were getting their bell rung week after week. Winters was on IR. The Line in essence was patchy. Add in that the organization possibly made up their mind that Chan system would be out the door. What good would it have been to impede Hackenbergs behind the scene progress throwing him to the wolves, ESPECIALLY when the coaching staff already had a plan in place NOT to play him in '16?
Guys, all im saying is-TRUST THE PROCESS.
