Matt Barkley VERY POSSIBLE

Started doing some digging around. Our new OC, senor Morton as we've all scoured his coaching resume was the OC at USC from 2009-2010. His signal caller was a promising young QB in Matt Barkley.

Just throwing it out there that it very well may be a possibility given his familiarity with Morton's system.
Cheap veteran alternative that won't cost the Jets that much.

Barkley played pretty well with Chicago in 2016 subbing in for Jay Cutler. Matt did not have much playing time before that, but he's still young at 26 and who knows, we may catch lightning in a bottle.

When Barkley was with Philly, he was who they trotted out for the annual Jets Finals Cuts vs Eagles Final Cuts game. He looked terrible.

Last year, 6 starts, 14 interceptions, his QB rating was lower than Fitzpatrick's and highest INT % for anyone with more than 100 passes (and he had more than 200)

Then maybe it IS a terrible idea.

I find it intriguing thats all. I just dont envision Maccagnan dishing out $10-$15 mil on the QBs that would be available, especially Glennon. I wouldnt mind giving Glennon a $15 mil contract for 3 years. Though i feel his Market for what ever reason will command a higher end value.

If Mike really believes in his high second round pick with Christian, then he MUST re-build the O-Line to protect him and draft playmakers to allow him to grow. With that being said, i would entertain the Barkley idea as he would come very cheap.

Well that's the rub. What does mac think of petty and hack? Will he sign a Matt Schaub bandaid, or go for glennon as a midterm solution? Only one way to know.

Does anyone have any better suggestions for who start at QB next season? There maybe, and if there is? Lets hear it, otherwise I feel Barkley may actually be one of our very few options for 2017. Either way the bar for acceptable QB play with the NYJ will not be very high at all in 2017, Hate to make such a depressing statement, but I do believe it to be true.........

I cringe in saying this but Geno is a way better option than Barkley

More experience and certainly more upside

I don't know? Maybe he is? But I do know that he's started here in the past and he was TERRIBLE, not to mention that he will not build any sort of good morale within the locker room. The Players already know what kind of creep this guy is. So I can't think this would have any positive effect on the team as a whole? Quite the opposite I would think.......

First we need to know if mac believes in petty or hack. If he does, we sign a low cost vet to start. Barkley has familiarity with Morton, so bodes well for him. I'd imagine Matt Schaub follows his coach the San Fran.

If we don't believe in either petty or hack, you make a play for the best available, Romo.

I don't think you can draft a qb in the first unless you 100% know he's an nfl starter. It costs too much to trade up if he isn't, and you destroy your team if you waste the pick.

Ewww...sorry, but if the team is going to invest in a QB with NFL experience, for me, it's Glennon or nothing.

Sack, i could understand if we can acquire Glennon for $8 mil, i'd be fine with that. Though there will be high demand for him, possibly at $12-$15 mil per season. We saw what a complete waste of money that was on Fitz in '16. Why not utilize that $12-$15 on potentially rebuilding the O-Line? Or getting a top flight CB?

My train of thought after completely exhaling from such a horrid and underperforming season is this on CHristian Hackenberg;

Mac and Bowles evidently think very highly of #5. They made up their minds that he would get red shirted in '16. Possibly knowing that Chan was headed out the door mid season, they didnt want to risk placing Hack behind a completely depleted O-Line. They threw Bryce/Fitz out there as a sacrificial lambs.

All these rumors of complete garbage that the Jets being interested in Jay Cutler IMHO is hog wash because the media has been shunned by Mac since he's gotten here. Think of it, why would the Jets entertain the fact of signing a QB at $15M/year if Mac is completely head over heels with Christian? This is why i think Glennon is out of the picture at any where above $8 mil.
I honestly hope Mike can do the right thing this off season and build an atmosphere wthin our offense in which Hack can grow and develop corectly. Give him weapons-Give him protection and give him time to learn the system.

I'd rather sign Barkley at $4million and spread our cap evenly than to throw down a boat load on QBs who just do not merit that value.

I like your optimism 16, and hope you are exactly right. Regardless of how Hackenberg turns out, Mac has to build a solid base on the offense. That means OL, TE and RB as we already have a decent core group at WR. A bridge QB to the future plus the rebuilding of elements of the offense will go along way towards the proper development of a young QB whomever that is.

There is a reason Barkley might command that kind of money, and why Glennon would be more expensive. I'm tired of going cheap at QB. Denver 2015 is the exception, not the rule.
