Montaric Brown Scouting Report

Montaric ia an athletic, strong corner who dominates. He possesses a good burst with excellent quickness. He is very aggressive in coverage. He never gives up on the play. He is trusted in man coverage to lock up his assignment. He is one of the best cover corners in college football. He has good ball skills to locate and attack the ball in the air.

Montaric has good instincts and anticipation reads and reacts with discipline. He is dangerous with the ball in his hands. He is an aware zone cornerback who is also adept in man coverage. He flashes physical hand punch at the line and has straight line speed to stay with receivers downfield.

Areas for Improvement

Brown is a bit grabby and has given up a number of penalties. He has given receivers too big a cushion in coverage. Hasn't had a lot of experience in a zone scheme -strictly a man/press corner. Has a high backpedal and loses a step in transition. Plays with adequate speed but there are concerns about his ability to handle the truly explosive speedsters of the NFL. He is inconsistent getting off of blocks. Can be a step slow to react when a quarterback comes back to his side of the field late in progression.

Montaric has the prototypical frame and ball skills to impress scouts. He has shown good discipline and has an aggressive nature to high point and intercept passes. He has shown consistency in coverage and is not afraid of getting physical. Brown has the statistical stature that will draw teams looking for that oddity on day three of the draft. He has the tools to develop into a future spot starter and even full time starter with exceptional range to be a shutdown corner at the NFL level.
