My thoughts on the Panthers game

The incomplete endzone throw on the first drive would've probably succeeded if Wilson PA'ed and the WR ran a hitch and go route.
Michael Carter looked good.
Izzy didn't disappoint.
We don't need Dalvin Cook.
The o-line cannot maul. They can only win regularly with misdirection. pfft Becton and McGovern.
Without Rodgers, the offense is in trouble in long yardage situations.
Hardman was mugged on a 3rd down play...bad non-call. Drive stalled for 2nd fg.
Hackett adjusted the offense nicely.


Please share your thoughts on the game as well as commentary on my thoughts. The game thread is too hard to follow for such a conversation.

All I recall is Becton getting blown up in one of the first drives. Also, it looks like the team is afraid of Zach throwing it deep. I don't blame them. Unless Rodgers plays, the defense will once again be called upon to win games.

Becton didn’t start, but he played a decent amount. IMO the O-line look “OK” they were unspectacular but solid at times. It’s mostly backups out there but at no point did I say “OMG this O-Line is going to get Rodgers killed”.

MC looked good today. He played early and was the best back today (Izzy had that nice long run that was almost a TD, but that also padded his stats LOL).

It all comes down to Rodgers......case closed. If he is hurt we are one & done. Lets get Boozer & Snell in that backfield to block for him

It does mean something in terms of who gets cut. We have a lot of pass rushers and not all are going to make it. Michael Carter is on the bubble and needs to beat out the lesser-known guys. Can Brownlee force his way in? Can Zach look like a competent #2? You would think that either he has to outplay Boyle or be traded, he can't really go to the practice squad. Can Yeboah stay on the team, you would think they would hope to smuggle Kuntz onto the practice squad. Can Becton work his way to the 1's in the short time left?

It should be noted that Becton played, I believe, about 3 times as many snaps in this game and didn't leave because of his knee. He actually wanted to stay in. As far as his performance goes I chalk that up to rust. Maybe he will work out after all. I'm guessing we'll know soon enough.

My thought on this and the last game is that Zach looks like a half-way competent QB. Now I will stress and I mean STRESS that we can't really put much stock into this! If I'm correct, Zach looked like a competent QB his first two years in pre-season and we see how that turned out! So, we'll just see how this pans out.

He looks better this preseason than last preseason. Compared with the Eagles game in '22, he's a better qb.

Correct me if I'm wrong. But my understanding was that the reports about Zach looking good in camp last season were specifically referring to his practices.

Last season, the team was losing at halftime in 2 of the 3 preseason games. This season, the Jets were well ahead at halftime in both starts. Furthermore, Wilson hasn't locked on anyone and he's made decisions quickly. He has definitely improved. By how much, it's hard to say and that can only be determined against better opponents.

Biggest change I've seen in Zach is taking what the defense gives him and not forcing passes. He is hitting the short gimme passes at a much better clip which was always a problem for him.

Our WR play has been pretty non-exist in the two preseason games, but so far they've done a good job helping him make quick decisions and using his check downs.
