Nick Muse Scouting Report

Nick has enough speed to challenge the seam. He is a highly competitive player. He gets tot the perimeter quickly and blocks well in open field and at the second level. He has good strength and effort to run through arm tackles. He has reliable hands to pluck the ball out of the air. He runs low and accelerates smoothly. He shields defenders and will let the ball into his pads to protect it when about to absorb a big hit over the middle.

Areas for Improvement

Muse is inconsistent with his release off the line of scrimmage. He does not explode out of his stance with consistent first step. He lacks the initial burst cutting off his routes in the open field. He drops too many catchable passes. He can be overwhelmed at the point as a blocker.

Muse is a big high hipped and slow to get rolling. His frame limits upside as a blocker. He will have his shar of drops with inconsistent focus. He too often tries running before securing the ball after the catch. He has only average size and functional strength. He lacks an imposing frame.

Nick Muse Career at School

Tight end who is taking advantage of the NCAA rule allowing him to return for a fifth season despite never taking a redshirt year. He joined the Gamecocks at the start of fall camp in 2019 following a transfer from William & Mary.

Muse is the Gamecocks’ top returning receiver and expected to play a significant role in the offense again in 2021. He is a willing blocker who has shown agility after the catch. He sets the tone in the tight end room.

Nick is coming off an outstanding spring in which he shared Joe Morrison Offensive Player of the Spring honors with Dakereon Joyner. He has 47 receptions for 583 yards in two seasons at Carolina and 81 catches for 1,091 yards spanning a four-year career. He was named to Athlon magazine’s 2021 preseason All-SEC third team and Phil Steele’s preseason All-SEC second team.

Nick Muse NFL Draft Player Profile

Former stand-out at William and Mary, Nick Muse transferred to South Carolina. His production was modest last year and his season was cut short due to injury, but he showed some things on film.

Muse has a strong size at 6’4″, 250 pounds, and is a powerful athlete. With good hands and a threat after the catch, he has a very strong chance to be a big riser during the 2020/2021 seasons.
