Chad Cascadden had an interesting take on the pass rush the other day. He's of the opinion that we play the wrong base defense. Said we're a 3-4 base with 4-3 personnel. He made a great point about our lack of enough LB's to play the 3-4, and how Sheldon would destroy opposing teams if he had his hand in the dirt all the time as a DE (instead of being miscast as an OLB).

Maybe we change our approach next year.

I agree with Chad on this & was thinking we would move to a 4-3 from camp on. TB did that in AZ a few times including Dallas & we destroyed their running game a few years ago. We should be in a 4-3.....so as you see I am not 100% behind TB. LOL

Trading down always sounds nice to add more picks. Do we really want more 2nd Rd picks? Our track recorded for picking talented 2nd Rd picks are awful. Picking 6th will not be a need position. With Mac, its best player available.

Our record isn't good in any round.

We play a lot of different looks including 4-3.
The rules favor receivers more every year. A strong secondary and pass protect defenses are a necessity.

Well when you have about 18-20 needs I think BPA is best choice.

Reality is we NEED a CB, A QB, A LT and maybe an Edge rusher ( ii say maybe because I think a better scheme with the front 7 we have it what we really need)

Would be nice to get an Upgrade at S

and add depth at G behind Carpenter and Winters and at LT besides a starter

So my count is we need 4 maybe 5.....

The sky is not falling but if we don't fix the QB and CB situation we will be in for a very rough year.... Talent is there on the offense but without a QB, well we know what to expect cause we saw it this year.... CB, bottom line here is if we don't have CB's playing press man coverage Bowles scheme, much like Rex's doesn't work, saw that this year.. But I will give Rex credit he adjusted his scheme to make the D still a top 10 D.... Bowles did not...

We need a stud on o line and a number 1cb. Everybody else is serviceable for now. Of course qb is never ok until you have a franchise guy.

The remaining positions we should look for younger replacements to take over.

Mauldin was developing nicely before his injury, and can rush until we find someone better.
If d line has a comeback year,hopefully mos injured ankle is healed, and our secondary plays average or better, we can hide our lb core.

We are not as bad as our season indicated. I really believe that unfortunately, the reason why I have no confidence is because Todd Bowles is leading us and I think he's the bigger problem. He constantly had our guys out of position which limits their effectiveness.

I agree with you completely, our QB and CB situations are the biggest weakness. Slight improvement from there, and slight defensive adjustments by Bowles and I think we can compete again.

There's no reason why Sheldon should have been dropping back. I expect improvement from Mo. I also expect Deon Simon to have more playing time. He played well at the end of the season. Additionally, I think that Jordan Jenkins, although i bashed him a few weeks ago, is a good player. He was getting pressure on the QB.

We get a QB and A CB.... Make the scheme adjustments, as you stated no reason Sheldon should be dropping into coverage, and this is a different team completely. If we had any semblance of decent QB play this year we may have been 8-8 or 9-7.... Add solid defensive play and we may be 10-6 11-6... No we aren't that far off

The Jets were 4-12 three years ago and now 5-11. The Jets are way closer to 4-12 than 9-7.

Eh, Sheldon Richardsons hand was in the dirt plenty and he produced little.
Now, you tell Richardson to come into camp next year about 40 plus pounds lighter put him at end and see what he does.

Agree, Chad doesn't seem knowledgeable. The reason Sheldon is at outside lb, is because the threat of thinking he's rushing you makes you think one way, then if he drops into coverage it surprises the qb. Ask Revis on his int last week. The qb thought Richardson was bringing the heat, instead he dropped back and tipped a pass to Revis.

Also, mo isn't healthy enough to play lb, he constantly had turf toe. Williams is too young to distract from becoming the beast he is destined to be.

the reason Sheldon was at OLB this year was because Mauldin was injured (high ankle sprain) and not on the field... TB didn't have an option at the rush linebacker position and the only option was Sheldon with his athleticism... Freddie Bishop wasn't ready when they called him up, Josh Martin is a special teamer and Mike Catapano was on IR...

in retrospect trying to get cute with personnel brought back the circus this year, but he was trying to put all of his best players on the field at the same time it just blew up in his face, badly... Sheldon can be a linebacker if he was more knowledgeable in his responsibilities, he main problem was angle of pursuit, never able to properly set the edge against the run always trailing the runner... Other than that he was actually fine...
