Who is the number one TE? Chris Herndon or Tyler Kroft, or neither of those?

Kenny Yeboah progressing week to week...
Ryan Griffin still seems missing on offense...
Daniel Brown is a receiving tight end getting lost on special teams...
Chris Herndon has stones for hands but is arguably the best blocking tight end on the roster...
Trevon Wesco has been lining up as FB but showcasing he can catch the ball...
Tyler Kroft looks like a true number one after being third or fourth on the Bills depth chart...

So who makes the 53?
How many TEs, will we keep on the roster...

definately impressed with Kroft last game and disappoined in Herndons lack of development

I want to say 4 make it but I doubt it...
Need that blocking tight end that can catch and we have that in
Trevon Wesco
It is good to have a solid blocker who pretends to be a possession guy in
Chris Herndon

I hope they cut ties with Ryan Griffin...
I hope they would keep Kenny Yeboah on the active roster but looks like he may end up on the practice squad and then be signed by another team unless the Jets make him a better offer to stick around...
Now unless an injury happens, Daniel Brown will be a simple release...

So Kroft is our only hope
Hope he emerges as a go to guy for Zach

rest of the options suck

It would seem: Kroft, Hernden and Wesco(who doubles as FB) are going to make the initial 53. Fant who will most likely be the game day backup tackle will also seemingly be used as a TE in short yardage situations(and may even surprise with a catch or 2 this season) - this TE role by Fant adds roster versatility and was a role he was effective in while at Seattle.

One last TE thought - bank it that in next year's draft - the JETS with one of their first 4 picks in the opening 2 rounds to draft a TE

no, they don't perceive that position as high as you think...
they tried to get Ben Mason that was taken by the Ravens in the 6th round because he is a FB that can play TE...

There are a few FAs that they will target coming off their rookie deals... Figure Kenny Yeboah, and Trevon Wesco will be a part of the future plans for this team and depending on how affordable Kroft will be would also be a part of the team moving forward...

Kenny Yeboah had a VERY spotty(inconsistent) college career, and it would appear Wesco is limited and has pretty much shown all he is ever going to be. Unless Herndon suddenly triples his football IQ - this probably is it for him. Kroft at times has played well in his career, but has been injury prone and is closing in on 30.

With all that said - and a plethora of 2022 draft picks - I could actually see the team drafting 2 TEs - one early and one later

Isaiah Likely, Coastal Carolina right now is ranked around late 4 early 5 likely could be a fit as an F - movement - receiving tight end who is paired with a Y - locking - tight end. His stock should rise by draft time but as of right now that receiving type TE is not at the top of the first three rounds... More of blocking guys are there...

James Mitchell, V Tech like Likely is a day 3 prospect right now. Mitchell could stand to improve his blocking ability for the NFL. Another receiving option...

Charlie Kolar from Iowa State is top in TE position is graded round 3...
Jamie Ruckert from Ohio State not a school that features TEs but another late 3rd early 4th...

So as of right now there is no TE the Jets could draft early...

Yeboah may have slotted himself as a starter after the night he just had.
he should make the active 53...

during the season he will rise through the depth chart to compete with Kroft for 1st team reps...

after receiving the game ball against the Iggles there is no way they try to put him on the practice squad...

The TEs on the 53 will be interesting - a lot of writers think Griffin will make it. Btw - Wesco has been mediocre at best playing FB

but he can actually catch unlike Herndon who can only catch a noise bleed...
Griffin has been irrelevant to this point... all preseason M.I.A.
Griffin is Joe Douglas guy not this new regimes'...
