Here’s the thing. I get that Wilson’s development isn’t at the same level as where the rest of the team is. The defense is top 5 for godsakes. I get that this last game was a setback. But is Mike White or Joe Flacco going to be the answer? How much can we expect from either one of them?
If Saleh wants to put Wilson on timeout for a game or two, then I guess it’ll send a message. Maybe it even works. But anyone excited about either of the backups has got another thing coming.
I am far from excited when it comes to White or Flacco. It comes down to the team needing a spark. Zach looks lost and clueless on the majority of his snaps (virtually ALL last week). He just doesn't see the field - plenty of situations (if we all watch the tape) where WRs are open, but he merely looks at the rushers without any feel for the play. Now, we can certainly attribute some of that to poor OC coaching as well, but either way, management sees that the rest of the positions have been filled with quality talent much quicker than expected and wants to create momentum.
After a long stretch of putrid GMs (Idzik and Mac put the franchise in expansion team status) and bad coaches, building a winning culture is a monumentally tall order, and when you have some momentum and talent to accelerate it, you absolutely do it, especially when your QB is absolute last in the NFL in most of the meaningful performance metrics and yet comes across as lacking accountability and starts being doubted in the locker room.
Gotta show the kids you wanna win. They are talented and hungry (which is what you would want).
