So many stories during the smoke screen szn, but one that is true is the Jets front office is sticking to their guns on quarterback evaluations. Sam Darnold leads the pack only because the suspected selection for the Jaguars is Trevor Lawrence. If they believe which is the ongoing synapsis that only reason they draft Zach Wilson is to reset the quarterback money market for the team. Right now the ongoing summation is Zach Wilson is same level as Sam Darnold, the potential is unknown for Wilson but there is a notion of what Sam could become.

Lets also look at the draft and key connections that give the Jets the ultimate trading partners starting with the number 2 pick. Current defensive coordinator and his link to his former team the Atlanta Falcons whom could be inclined to draft a qb this year to sit behind Matt Ryan for a year. Still uncertain times with limited to no off season workouts, mini camps, etc. what about preseason games will there be any? So what if the Falcons want to trade up the Jets are in ripe position to get first, second and third this year with a second next as compensation.

After a trade down the Dolphins are linked to three prospects, Devonta Smith, JaMarr Chase and Penei Sewell.

Now the Philadelphia Eagles at six ties to our GM Joe Douglas himself would be able to converse with them and offer up the fourth overall. Are they sure they want to roll with Jalen Hurts or do they need something else? Another team that offers up first, second and third this year plus a second next year even if they don't draft a quarterback they might want that Jason Peters heir apparent in Penei Sewell. The notion is that the Bengals believe he will fall to them at five.

The final connection for the Jets is newly hired head coach Robert Salah and the 49ers selecting 12. Jimmy G. or reboot the the position. Trade Jimmy G. to New England but still would need to move ahead of the Panthers if they don't get Watson. Perfect match is Justin Fields but Trey Lance could flip the bill for the 9ers in this scenario. So the third team offering up first, second and fourth this year plus a first next year.

Mel Kiper latest mock is the Jets trade down to four and take tight end Kyle Pitts out of Florida. By his mock it would still be able to take Pitts at twelve with the picks throughout the first eleven selections. For a team that has many holes, trading down three times stockpiling much needed picks allows them to make a number of strategic selections and rounds two and three.

12, 23, 34, 35, 37, 43, 66, 68, 70, 86, 102, 107, 149, 155, 188, 249

this would be the group of picks if the Jets exercise their connections to former teams to manipulate the draft.

@12 TE Kyle Pitts from Florida is a good selection with a possible prospect OT/OG/OC Rashawn Slater on the board.

three teams have two second round picks that might want to move back up to the backend of the first round. there are prospects that might entice the Jets but taking away that fifth year team option to secure team friendly deals should be considered. Currently have four second rounds in this mock. what if newly hired Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer wants to make a splash. The Jaguars have pick 33 & 45 would be more enough to offer for the 23rd pick even though they have the 25 pick as well. Lets say they offer that trade to the Jets would be foolish to reject it.

33, 34, 35, 37, 43, 45, 66, 68, 70, 86, 102, 107, 147, 155, 188, 249

Time not only to reset the roster but to give the team it's best chance of success.

Two Quarterbacks whom could be available are Mac Jones & Kyle Trask, why do I mention them because in this scenario the team needs a backup quarterback and taking one in the second round doesn't start a storyline for the media to harp on all season. Lets say Mac Jones is available.

@33 Mac Jones, QB from Alabama
@34 Wyatt Davis, OG from OSU
@35 Alex Leatherwood OT from Alabama
@37 Jay Tufele, NT from USC
@43 Patrick Jones II, DE from PSU
@45 Richie Grant, FS from UCF
@66 Chazz Surratt, LB from UNC
@68 Brevin Jordan, TE from Miami
@70 Dazz Newsome, WR from UNC
@86 Quinn Meinerz, OC from WISCONSIN - WHITEWATER
@102 Monty Rice, LB from UGA
@107 Trey Smith, OG from UT
@147 Amari Rodgers, WR from Clemson
@155 Nico Collins, WR from Michigan
@188 Jaret Patterson, RB from Buffalo
@249 Darren Hall, CB from San Diego St.

If someone asks the offensive line is rebuilt in one draft but no guarantees any of them will start this year.

LT: Becton, McDermott
LG: Lewis, Trey Smith (R)
OC: McGovern, Quinn Meinerz (R)
RG: Van Roten, Wyatt Davis (R)
RT: Fant, Alex Leatherwood (R)

depending on off season workouts and training camp this gives us stability and insurance for now and the future.

wide receiver and tight end another stability move with or without Jamison Crowder we draft two slot receivers to go along with Berrios. Drafting another big target in Nico Collins to pair with Denzel Mims is just one of the two draft moves. Drafting Kyle Pitts is a tight end that can lineup as receiver. Herndon & Pitts could take over the middle of the field. Trevon Wesco is a blocking tight end that can play fullback for the offense.

WR1 Denzel Mims, Nico Collins
WR2 FA, TE Kyle Pitts
WR3 (Crowder), Dazz Newsome, Amari Rodger, Braxton Berrios
TE Chris Herndon, Kyle Pitts, Trevon Wesco

This team has options, hope they take advantage of their ties to improve this year the overall the teams needs on offense and partial defensive upgrades.

I've always felt this years 2nd Rd was the place to be. I think we could get two #1's next year instead of #2's from Atlanta and Philly. I would pass on a QB in the 2nd Rd. and take the best available CB, OC, EDGE, RT,OLB, RB, WR, OG ,TE, CB, DE, DT, WR, DB, DB, DB in that order. Did not hit on everything but we have 4 #1's and #2's next year and FA to fix what we missed.

Other than I don't think Mac Jones will fall far beyond #15, I like gmf's selections.

Man if this scenario happened I would start the petition for joe Douglas to be an early candidate for the hall of fame.
Add that draft haul to a free agent class that there is plenty of cash for shopping for toys such as a #1 wideout, cornerback, or edge rusher, shit, turn this mess around in quick time.

You are to be commended for the work put into the post, so I'll say one thing regarding it,
I don't think Mac Jones will not go in the first round.
I'd take him much, much earlier and be happy.

like I said Mac Jones or Kyle Trask one of the two will be there at 33...

for chance that Jones falls then awesome but connection with Kyle Pitts and Trask also works... Not to mention the connection with La'Mical Perine... Just making connections sometimes those connections can work and continue to be productive...

Love the philosophy but with your OL depth chart I notice that Cameron Clark is missing. Is that on purpose?

practice squad anyone?
dont know where he belongs or if he belongs
always could unseat Conor McDermott at LT (backup that is)
what if they release Van Roten then he can split time there as backup
so many what ifs but right now no proof he is worth keeping

Would be our Hershel Walker trade moment. That'll kickstart the roster re-build.

I like the Idea of trading down twice from 2 ending up with the Niners 12th pick and multiple 2nds and 3rds . I think the meat of this draft is in the 2nd and 3rd round and acquiring as many picks in those 2 rounds should be the objective . It's all up to the Jets and what they can do in free agency thou .

It allows the team to be choosy in what it wants to accomplish, make a big splash or compliment pieces while paying the home players their due...

Continuity is a big plus in this league... Keeping the OL intact regardless of what will be the team can continue to build upon the chemistry that had a rocky start last year... Connor McGovern was good, but knowing the team just drafted his heir apparent will either push him or he will lose his job... Same goes for Alex Lewis & Greg Van Roten. For me I would trade Fant just because of the veteran play at guard and allow the rookie to get early lumps... Herndon showed last season that he is an effective blocker both pass and run... Drafting a play maker at tight end is not to push Herndon but to leverage him into a quality team second contract...

There are so many things this team can accomplish by filling vast roster positions in one draft and they have the luxury to do so this year and continue next year...

To end up with 3 1st rounds & 3 2nd rounds to kick off 2022, gives us the ammo if we need to target a QB in next years draft... Still will have quality picks with 3 3rd rounds left over if we had to use all the 1st and 2nds to make a move...

Just saying the options would be open to make any move... Who knows could flip 2nds for the following draft's 1sts... JD is in the driver seat of a Maserati in terms of draft picks if played right he would be king of the castle...
