Once he clears waivers, I would think about talking to him. He is still only 26

if reports are true that the Jets are planning to retain Mo Claiborne then signing FA Trumaine Johnson to reunite with our current DB coach Dennard who coached TJ in St. Louis then making TJ and that secondary in the Top 5 in all categories...
the Jets will need to draft someone but now have two capable starters will need a spot starter so in the draft can wait until rounds 4 or 5 to get someone... Unless a highly touted recruit falls to their 3rd round pick... This reason is Claiborne can not sustain a full season...
To claim Amerson, you are claiming his current contract and I think it is too much for a player like him 3 years roughly $21 M... I know its not guaranteed but rather try to sign him through free agency which would be half of that if they did go after him would be for depth at safety because of his hip flexibility, agility, and overall speed to play corner is not up to snuff.
I'm kinda curious about last year's two CB draftees. Clark was hurt and essentially red-shirted and Jones got some ST time, but nothing otherwise. I consider both red-shirts, with Jones the intriguing one. A converted WR who has all of the measurables and flashed at CB, but raw as can be. Would love to see him have developed enough to be our 3rd or 4th CB, and possibly get meaningful time in the event of a inevitable Mo Claiborne injury.
TJ would be an ideal fit because he can play outside and inside... If we go after him in FA...
We re-sign Claiborne he too can play both inside out...
I expect both Jones and Clark to compete for the other starting outside role given if we get those two veterans signed for at least this upcoming season... Clark isn't fast to cover vertical receivers but his body control and ability to be technical to reroute receivers to throw timing patterns off will allow him to develop into a decent man cover corner... Derrick Jones has the speed, quickness and hands to be a shutdown corner problem is his technique is raw right now...
If it was me would get rid of Buster Skrine and move Juston Burris to nickel, he is a run support cover corner that has quickness but is slow vertical as we seen him get beat over and over again deep...
We still need to draft a prospect or two, like certain positions this position seems to be or turnover position, keep getting them in and eventually one or two will stick... Especially now since our safety position is locked down for years... Not just Maye and Adams but Brooks seems to be a keeper being he is able to backup both safety positions...

If we take Minkah at #6 and another CB with pick #37 we should have our Secondary locked down for a good long while.
I doubt the Rams let Johnson walk and if they do, he will want to set the market for CornerBacks.
Amerson is now a FA so his deal can be negotiated but he already has visits scheduled and rumors are the Bears will try to sign him when he visits tomorrow.
He should be fully recovered from the foot sprain that held him back last season
I don't know why you say he is not up to snuff to play corner. He was ranked the # 13th corner in 2016 , 3 spots ahead of Johnson.
