Calvin Pace is not quite ready to put down his pads.

The free agent linebacker fully intends to play in 2016 – which would be his 14th season – according to NJ.com.

Now 36 years old, Pace has previously expressed a desire to remain with the New York Jets. Whether or not Gang Green wants him back is another question. The Jets are clearly trying to get younger and have up and comers like Lorenzo Mauldin and Mike Catapano that can spend time at Pace’s position.

Still, Pace has been a fan favorite and welcomed veteran presence since coming over the Arizona Cardinals in 2008. If he is willing to take on a lesser role in the Jets’ defense, he very well could be back in 2016.
Pace recorded three sacks and 15 tackles last year.

Please no, its time to get younger and faster at linebacker.

We have the right idea, now lets not backslide.

not backsliding...

he wouldn't be a starter, but mentor to Jordan Jenkins...

sorry but I am not sold on anyone outside Lorenzo Mauldin, Jordan Jenkins, Trevor Reilly (and really think Reilly is one foot out the door)... Freddie Bishop looks the part but still hasn't shown anything in particular... Deion Barnes looks like another year on the practice squad to continue development... Rather have Pace over Josh Martin who like Reilly is competing against himself to make the cut...

for one year & vet min. worth every penny because he is a durable player... we want Jenkins to develop correctly and having Pace for one more season would do that...

Just my opinion...

huh what the hell does that mean?

defense jetgreen13 has nothing to do with the three rookie receivers...
i beg to differ G.. there are only 53 spots on the active roster, regardless of if you play offense, defense, or special teams..

would you want pace over any of kid WR's i mentioned?? i wouldn't..

No 36 YO player at the expense of a promising Young player.

More then likely the Jets will already be losing a player to keep smith on the roster

going to keep 4 outside linebackers, do we have 4 worthy able bodies for this position right now?

Lorenzo Mauldin looks like he should be the starter, but so far he has had a so so camp/preseason...

Jordan Jenkins is probably the only viable outside linebacker that deserves the nod as starter...

Josh Martin, Trevor Reilly, Deion Barnes have shown next to nothing to say that bringing Calvin Pace is not needed...

Lawrence Thomas is more of a defensive end then a hybrid end/linebacker same can be said for Mike Catapano...

So again after the two likely starters do we have any confidence in the depth of these above players... If not, then bringing in a player that would be a mentor to our young players, in comparison of the current talent has to be an option...

the better question should be will they keep Kenbrell Thompkins over any of those three receivers if they only keep 6, but I do believe they will come to the tough decision to either trade or cut KT...

after BMarsh, Decker and Enunwa, there is one guaranteed contract leaving 2 rosters spaces available after those four... of the three who makes it? but if they part ways with KT then all three make the team... tough cut would be Ross who has been having an outstanding camp/preseason... then there is the option they keep 7, where Ross could be in as long as KT is out...

If they find (and I believe they will) that Darron Lee cannot be effective rushing the QB, then calling Pace makes sense. As of right now the media constantly brag about how wonderful the Jets pass rush is, so Pace's need is yet to be determined.....
