Report: Harvin Informs Jets he will not by taking Pay Cut

Yes, they can. If they don't feel that he's worth that salary, it sets a bad precedent to pay him just because they have the space. Other players will feel that they should ask the Jets for more money then as well. Why stop at Harvin? The team is starting over under a new regime and are going to be bringing in their own people. Spiller(provided we get him) will be used a lot as a pass catcher and make up for some of the loss of Harvin. Besides, to a pure personnel guy like Macc, $10 mil + giving up a 4th round pick might be too steep for a gadget player.

Also, the thread title is a little misleading. It's just the same thing LaCanfora has been saying for the last two weeks. There is nothing that states that Harvin "informed" the Jets of anything.

If its true he won't take a pay cut, it's a no brainer decision. Vaya Con Dios!

He's a nice complimentary piece, but not a #1 receiver, not worth resigning at that price. Jets would be wise to let him test the FA market. He won't sniff 10M anywhere else and might come back at a more reasonable number.

Supposedly, he'd take less to play with an elite qb on a one year deal, then try to score a long term deal in 2016. He's not going to play on the cheap(according to reports) with Geno/rookie/placeholder vet.

I agree. He's not getting $10m with the jets or anywhere.

Welcome by the way. Hope you like this place! If there's an issue just message me or the other two mods. Machina Verde ucrenegade

I agree that he's not worth 10 but dont underestimate the actions of these GM's. Some desperate team may actually pay up. Haha. I'd give him 7 or 8 tops. Regardless of what's said he is a top tier kick returner and can prosper at the WR position given the right plays. He can go deep and play the slot.

If this happens, I hope we get either #1 option - White WR WVU at #6 or my option 2: Torey Smith...I'd settle with Mike Wallace as option 3. Dude still has deep speed, had 10 TDs last year, and would have an ax to grind for 2 divisional games a year, so he'd make my top 3.

What team with an elite QB needs him?

Wouldn't expect him to resign with the Jets on the cheap, but something comparable to what we're paying Decker ($5-6M) would make sense. If he balks, we can get a nice WR at that price, without the risks keeping him would carry.

Decker makes $7.5 mil per.

Wallace is turning into a malcontent just like Holmes did. I wouldn't want him a part of any rebuilding program. I agree that he still has skill, but I think he'd blow up here with our current qb situation.

There's talks of the Packers replacing Cobb with Harvin. Also, rumors that pats may cut Amendola and Harvin would be a perfect replacement and fits their system.

So cut him! He ain't worth $10 mil and a fourth round pick in any universe. Cut his ass tomorrow and whomever signs him for that much money is a idiot. I was hoping we could cut him and with no real interest he would resign with the Jets for $5-6 mil max but f#$k him! Let the Packers and NE or whomever fight over him. Cobb is definitely better, a true WR and worth more money. Let's sign Cobb, give him the $10 mil! Well not that much but you get my point.

+1. To both this post, and your previous post about not setting a precedent in overpaying guys. If we pay Harvin 10 million, agents for other current Jets players are gonna be banging down the door of Maccagnan for their players to eat up the rest of our cap space. No thanks.
