New York Jets linebacker Lorenzo Mauldin has been arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault for an alleged incident that took place in April, TMZ reports.
Mauldin turned himself into the NYPD on Wednesday.
A third-round selection by the Jets two years ago, Mauldin stands accused of twice punching a Manhattan club-goer in the face after the other man, Jean Lopez of Queens, reportedly spilled champagne on him.
Lopez is suing Mauldin for the alleged assault, which caused broken bones in Lopez’s face.
Should he be convicted, Mauldin faced up to one year in jail.
The National Football League is keeping an eye on the situation.
“We have been monitoring developments, and this matter is under review of the personal conduct policy,” a league spokesman told ESPN on Wednesday.
Mauldin is the Jets’ projected starting outside linebacker opposite Jordan Jenkins, though the team also drafted edge rusher Dylan Donahue in this year’s NFL Draft.
