if you don't think he did the kid a tremendous disservice, there's really nothing left for me to add..

if you look at the two styles of football the range difference would be similar to Peyton Manning >< Tim Tebow... If that helps?

Pro style system in freshman year then asked to operate an option based system where his mobility isn't Tyrod Taylor but more Big Ben...

Hackenberg has the arm, the football iQ and leadership qualities... When giving proper protection, three count, five count he knows where his reads are and delivers but he needs to at least have a three count to release the ball... the last two years at PSU he was lucky if he got half mississippi, not even a full one count...

The Big Ten opponents are all established and stacked which meant they needed more than one accomplished offensive lineman... John Urshel currently of the Baltimore Ravens was the only good part of that line and he was mostly on the right side but the pressure seemed to come from the blind side and up the middle nothing any QB could do in that situation...

Well I'm not sure playing behind the Jets OL will be a huge upgrade.

I've actually never said that. I've supported giving hack a shot if you read some of my posts. The point I was making was Franklin had a style of offense. Which was different from obriens. i've never been a fan (in any sport) of coaches that force feed their philosophy on talent not well suited to carry it out..

but i admit, more than just franklin were to blame for how this fiasco played out..

the kid, for being for being to stubborn/proud to transfer out of awful situation for himself..

the kids father, for apparently not doing enough to convince his son he would be making an awful mistake by not transferring..

the athletic director, for bringing in a new head coach that was the antithesis of the best player/QB on the team, who was still only sophomore..

Franklin should have built a system that suited Hack better, then recruited guys who fit his system so he could make the change in scheme once Hack graduated.

Now one of his possible targets will be facing a suspension. We are setting these QB's up for failure. No talent around him on the line or at the skills. By the end of September we will be on Darnold watch. We aren't going to give this kid a true shot. I think that will be a mistake. I think this kid has the makings of a franchise QB. Give him the job and let him roll with it.

i can't ever remember hearing about college head coach doing this to absolute blue chip (pocket passer) high school QB, much less one who showed he's capable of running a sophisticated pro style offense as a true freshman..

essentially, franklin inherited a ferrari & in his infinite wisdom, decided to do nothing but off road racing with it..

Call me crazy but I think we may be onto something good here with Hack and the way the Jets handled this situation. Think about it, he was the #1 recruited QB and I think the #1 player period his senior year. He went to Penn State and shined under the Pats HC. Keep in mind, he was running the New England offense, pro style offense that the greatest QB ever to touch a ball is currently running now. Once the HC left, things feel apart for Hack and the team but everything changed for him. Besides the HC and CS, they changed his throwing style, the offense and everything he know. The team changed drastically, which they were behind the curve from start with all that pervert coach and the Paterno scandal.

He gets destroyed for two straight years but hangs in there and takes the beating. He did not miss a game I think and played/started his entire three years there. Now he gets drafted and the Jets sit him for a full year and allow him to just learn and recoup from his mental, maybe emotionally (hopefully not) and physical beating. I was personally pissed he wasn't able or ready to play at all last year but if that was what was needed for him, so be it. Besides, it appears the Jets CS and management had that plan in their heads all along. No matter where he was, he was going to sit and learn. Now he should be ready to contribute at the least. Not be an all-star but contribute.

So hopefully he starts from game one and is ready to do just that. If that's the case, then we may have onto something here and have ourselves a gamer here Jets faithful. This team will not help him much but he can grow and learn with them and if he can contribute anything to this team, I think it shows even more that we may have something here. This is not the Dak situation where he had a team ready to go and championship ready. Not even the Sanchez situation, where he had a team ready and were playoff to possibly championship ready. This team we all know will win 0-3 games at most, if he's horrible and 5-7 games, if he has anything positive to offer.

I'm looking forward to this season and seeing what he and the team can do. I'm not excited but looking forward to it. J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets!!!

I think it's easy to knock Hack fro his sophomore and junior year. But he really was a fish out of water in that Offense.... The problem is how bad did that Franklin Offense screw this kid up and is it fixable.... I think it is... I think Gruden thinks it is...... He has an IG. Him and his girlfriend just bought a puppy and went out to breakfast... not as news worthy as Robbie Anderson or Matt Harvey...I like my athletes quiet and out of the spot light
