Shaking Loose Post Draft

Mac has cleverly left enough cap space to look for guys who may shake loose from their current teams as a result of the draft and their team's current cap situation.

One such team is the Denver Broncos who, after drafting Bradley Chubb, may lose Shaquil Barrett or Shane Ray. Both of them are better than what we currently have at OLB.

Although the Niners have plenty of cap space left, they have a bit of a gut at tackle. 2017 UFA Darrell Williams may be a guy to keep an eye on.

The Raiders are in cap hell and currently don't have enough space to sign their rookie class. One of their young DT may be in play before long.

The Falcons have a lot of WR (as do we). Will Sanu be let go? Taylor Gabriel? Justin Hardy? A lot will depend on Robby Anderson's status but Mac could be on the lookout for a proven WR.

After taking two TE's in his last Ravens draft, can Max Williams become available? Might be worth taking a flyer on him.

Carolina double dipped on corners so far. Does Daryl Worley become available?

Darnold is still 20. If I lived in New Jersey, I would call 911 and have Mac arrested for threatening the welfare of a minor. Once again, Mac has neglected the offensive line.
I'll climb down off my soap box now, because some of us have felt the same way for years.
Yes, he signed one center and another center who can play guard. But what about the other three OL positions?
The current Jets do not have one carryover offensive lineman who has ever been all pro, alternate all pro, or has even received a vote for all pro. (I might have missed a vote or two).
I hope he knows what he's doing.

So our draft this year is essentially Darnold. Like you said, now we have to find a way to keep him alive. Since he most likely won't play this season anyway, that leaves another off season to load up on offensive linemen. Boy I hope that is the plan

Here's my in-depth analysis on this years draft:

I don't have an f'n clue!

I'm happy we drafted Darnold and not Rosen (originally, I wanted Rosen, but, soured on him).

I can honestly say I don't miss our 2nd round disaster picks

I now know there's a college called Ft. Hays State University

I'm so glad we waited until the 4th round to grab a TE!

The rest is a WTF did we do? Which could translate into something good, because, I still don't have an f'n clue?

There were some good players out there in the 3rd 4th and 5th Rds. IMO Macc could have picked better players or traded up instead of down. I would have gambled on Arden Key. We so much need an ER. Time will tell how good Macc did. From past history, Macc does not do well after the 1st Rd. Maye being the exception. We need Pro-Bowl players not fill-ins.

There certainly are positions of need on the OL. Long addresses the void Mangold left at center. He's not a superstar, but he is stout. I still believe in Winters. Not sure about Carpenter. Beachum is a solid LT when healthy, but I'd still like some more stability at RT. Shell needs to prove it. And the LT of the future needs to be addressed.

Well, to be fair, first rounders only pan out half the time. It's about a 50% success rate. Expecting Pro Bowlers in the mid-rounds might be asking a bit much.

A lot of teams passed on Arden Key for a reason. He had a lot of injuries and a rehab stint.

I disagree, when mac was hired, this was a5year rebuild. We had the least talented top to bottom roster after tanenbaum and idzik. Well it's year 4.

Mac was executive of the year after 2015, and assembled the jets best offense in history at bubblegum prices. He has never mortgaged the future, and eradicated unproductive, lazy cancers. He has turned an older NFL roster, into a young hungry team. Nobody makes every move without errors, but we have young stars on defense, and he got his franchise qb, something we haven't had in oh, 50years!

We have late round and undrafted contributors.

If we can go 4-4under McCown, then transition to darnold, we will enter year 5of the rebuild next year, probably draft around 12th, and can grab a strong o linemen, edge rusher, or offensive weapon in the first. We then start a 4 year calendar where we don't have to pay top qb money, and can compete annually. Without Tom Brady in the division.

Mac was executive of the year for adding high priced FA in 2015 not at bubblegum prices! What young Stars on Defense? (Williams, and Adams). Two players? One Player (1) after the 1st Rd that looks decent in Maye. Where is the great draft after Rd #1? If we go 4-4, If we draft an OL. If we draft an ER. If we draft Offensive weapons. If,if,if. Other teams are drafting All-Pro players in the mid Rds. Why can't the Jets. Oh, I forgot. IF!

You hit the nail square on the head with that statement butterscotch. As Jets fan we are prejudiced in our evaluations of players by what we hope and want them to be as much as the skill we presume that they have that will translate to the NFL. Every pick is an unknown until they have put in enough TIME showcasing those skills for the coaches to truly evaluate what sort of player he is or will be.

That is why I say Tebow needs more time.....after he wins the WS for the Mets the jets should take him back for another try.....before he goes to the Rangers to win the Cup that is
