Newsday -- Jets defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson speaks to reporters during the second day of training camp at the practice facility in

The Jets reportedly were more than willing to deal Sheldon Richardson before the trade deadline. But their asking price was apparently too steep for NFL teams.

During their trade talks with the Dallas Cowboys, the Jets asked for a first-round pick in either 2017 or 2018 for the versatile defensive lineman, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. But that was more than team owner Jerry Jones was willing to give up.

The Jets’ trade demands were made well before Richardson was benched, along with Muhammad Wilkerson, for the first quarter of Sunday’s game in Miami. A source told Newsday that the two linemen were disciplined by coach Todd Bowles for being late to a team meeting.

My guess is that we pick up his option and trade him this offseason. Hopefully we can get at least a #2, maybe a 2 and 5. Too many needs particularly on the OL that have been ignored for too long. If we get a #2, I would think that 2 out of our top 4 picks could and should be used to replenish the OL, particularly C and OT. The other two should be spent on CB and OLB.

we already picked up his option...

they tried to trade him to two different teams prior to the trade deadline but they didn't want to give up a 1st for him...

come this off season expect the Jets to get either a 1st or 2nd and 4th...

a team like the Browns has the Eagles 1st round pick, which would work...

or teams like the Broncos, Cowboys even the Bills may pony up a 2nd round with a 4th round compensatory pick for him...
