Some thoughts on FA and upcoming draft

1) Ezekiel Elliott and Derek Henry are most likely not in Jets plans. The more likely reality is that the Jets are targeting the 2017 RB class, which is comparable to the stacked WR class of 2014. It is absolutely LOADED. Leonard Fournette (LSU), Dalvin Cook (FSU), Nick Chubb (UGA), and Christian McCaffrey (Stanford) are all likely 1st round picks. After that, Jalen Hurd (Tenn), Elijah Hood (UNC), James Conner (Pitt), Royce Freeman (oregon), Samaje Perrine (Okla), Joe Mixon (Okla), Wayne Gallman (Clemson) are all talents that warrant picks in the top 4 rounds. I think signing Forte was a master stroke by Macc because he now has a 1-2 year stop-gap that gets us to one of the studs in the 2017 class.

2) We overpaid for Revis. I think we all knew it then but really had no choice. I'm not sure what he gives us in 2016 but his cap number is hurting the club right now. If he doesn't restructure then I see him gone after this season. I think this is the year to see what McDougle and Williams can give us moving forward.

3) I don't think Fitz is coming back and it's the right move. Before this season Fitz's value was that of an avg backup and a conditional 6th round pick. I don't know if one season in a favorable offensive system qualifies him to be a 15-20 million per year QB (on a multi-year deal) all of the sudden. Macc isn't that dumb to buy the bate on this one. I do see us making a move for a QB in April's draft. If Paxton Lynch falls into the mid-teens (and he very well may), I see the Jets jumping on it. This guy has something that we haven't had in forever...upside. He can be special. Worse case scenario is Geno Smith (or another journeyman) runs the team for a season at a cap friendly number and then Lynch and Petty battle it out in 17. We would rather have Fitz passing that torch, but Macc WILL NOT mortgage the future for that to happen. Right call.

4) Keep your eye on Laquan Treadwell. This is the best WR in the draft by a mile and I can see him falling. He compares favorably to the studs of 2014, in my opinion he is an Anquan Boldin type talent. Teams may be scared off by his horrific leg injury in 2014 and there aren't a ton of WR-needy teams, which works in our favor. He may slip. And if he does, and we don't go QB, I think he easily fits the best player available tag.

5) Keep an eye on Jacoby Brissett. If we don't go QB in round 1, then he is firmly in the crosshairs in round 3. 6'4 235 with arm and athleticism can be groomed. Again, I think Petty has a limited ceiling but nice potential nonetheless. Letting him compete with someone like Lynch, Brissett, or even Cardale Jones, who all have the skill-set to be home runs if they develop, makes sense. How long has it's been since we had a 10+ year franchise QB? That, in my mind, still is priority #1 for the Macc/Bowles era. Without it, 10-6 is kind of the ceiling moving forward.

That's the only part I disagree with - calling Smith a "journeyman" is an insult to journeymen - the only reason they get picked up and kept on a roster again and again is that they're somewhat solid, if unspectacular. They offer something.

Giants demanding Cruz take a deep pay cut or they cut him. Could have him for the price of kerley
