Tayland Humphrey Scouting Report Tayland has good strength and balance to sit down, lock-out and create a pile, leading to possibilities inside and out (in the 3-4). He is a strong tackler. He has good power in hands and can anchor, shed, and chase. He combines strength and footwork to fill holes inside, as well. Recovers from cut blocks or falling on his way to make a tackle. Tayland is a massive man, is tough to move and can surprise opponents with his athleticism. He is a physical tackler, planting players in the backfield with relentless punishment.
Areas for Improvement Humphrey plays too high at times, and gets carried downfield or put to the ground by better lineman when losing the leverage battle. He is not able to consistently shed blocks and makes plays in the hole. He might be limited to one-gap systems. His agility isn't a question but misses tackles when he doesn't square and break down. Humphrey needs to keep his pad level low; pops upright and plays too tall, struggling to maintain leverage off the snap. He remains raw as a pass rusher and doesn't have the foot speed to chase down ballcarriers.
Tayland Humphrey Career at School Tayland Humphrey played at Klein Oak High School in Spring, Texas…Rated as the 30th overall player in the state of Texas. He spent two years at Hutchinson CC. He appeared in 22 total games, which included 62 total tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. Prior to Louisana, he spent 2018 at FIU. He played in 12 games while making eight starts. In those 12 games, where he registered 15 tackles, one for loss and one sack. In 2019, he did not see any action and did not record any stats during his redshirt junior campaign. As a redshirt senior, Tayland was an absolute menace at the nose tackle position. He started in all 10 games in which he appeared. He earned Honorable Mention All Sun Belt Conference honors. He finished the year with 32 tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss and a quarterback hurry. He took the ability to return with another year of eligibility due to the pandemic.
