Tonight's episode of The Walking Dead exhibited a tonal shift from last week's epic mid-season premiere and was much more light-hearted, which was refreshing to watch. It also appeared that a few weeks have past since the events of the last episode and things in Alexandria seem to have returned to a bit of normalcy. Although tonight's episode was infused with humor, there still was some somber moments, which were great in terms of character development. Here's the spoilery breakdown:

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid?| ...more like Bill and Ted's excellent adventure. Much of tonight's episode revolved around Rick and Daryl who go off on a supply run and although I anticipated more drama, viewers were treated to a bit of hilarity. It's interesting to see how Rick and Daryl have experienced a bit of a role reversal in terms of trust. Rick is now more open to recruiting outside members while Daryl is a bit hesitant after his previous encounters with Negan's crew. Cue a fully stocked truck and a double-cross from newest cast member Jesus. Fans will recognize this pivotal character from the comic books and without giving much away he is essential to upcoming storylines. For now, the question remains, is Jesus to be trusted? I'm inclined towards the affirmative considering he didn't try to kill Rick and Daryl, but instead just stole the truck. Clearly, he isn't telling them the whole truth about why he needed the supplies, but I'm assuming he's part of another group who just like the Alexandrians are just trying to survive. Too bad that both parties lost the supplies, as the truck rolled down into a ravine. Jesus was knocked out and against Daryl's wishes, Rick decides to take him back to Alexandria to be treated by Denise.
Jack & Jill... and their awkward date in the forest. Carl, who seems to have fully recovered from his gunshot wound albeit with a bandage covering his eye goes on a stroll in the woods with Enid. Someone get this kid a stylish eyepatch, maybe he can borrow one from the governor? I digress. Enid seems to have also experienced an interesting role reversal after helping to save the lives of both Glenn and Maggie, as she doesn't see the need to venture out of the confines of Alexandria. Carl though keeps going out much to Enid's dismay. Both come across a walker who sends chills down both their spines. Enid pleads with Carl to kill it, but he can't bring himself to do it and hollers at her to just go home. Ouch. What a way to make an impression Carl...
Mommie Dearest Also in the woods, is Spencer, fresh off the loss of his entire family, equipped with nothing but a shovel. Michonne spots him wandering the woods as she guards the entrance to Alexandria and decides to accompany him. He doesn't want her help or her advice but just as the two begin to bond over their mutual losses during the siege of Alexandria, the same walker that crossed paths with Carl and Enid interrupts and it appears to be none other than Michonne's mentor and Spencer's mother, Deana. Turns out, Spencer had spotted his undead mother while he was on guard and made it his mission to find her and put her out of her misery. Deanna helps Spencer find closure and the two kill her and bury her in the woods. As they depart Deana's grave, there was a brief somber moment between the two where Michonne tells Spencer that he hasn't lost his family, but instead has gained more in the form of Michonne and Rick's crew. Speaking of family, I loved the exchange between Michonne and Carl, when she asked him why he didn't kill Deana when he initially encountered her. His response was that he couldn't because it needed to be done by a family member. This was an interesting throwback to when he had to kill his own mother post-childbirth. Even at his young age, he understands the importance of closure, and it was good to see how he gave that to Spencer.
Richonne Then there was the show's final few minutes as Rick and Michonne shippers across the United States screamed in collective fandom joy. After a heartfelt exchange between the two regarding their collective bad day, the two kiss and have sex. This moment has been in the making over the course of the past few seasons and the two have finally succumbed to each other. Talk about a power couple. Too bad their moment of bliss was interrupted by Jesus who may I say creepily walked in on a fully naked Rick and Michonne post-coitus so they can talk. Did I mention that Jesus is my homeboy?
