Todd Bowles Finalizes New 5-year Contract

The Buccaneers and Todd Bowles agreed to a new five-year contract, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Bowles was named the team’s new head coach Wednesday, replacing Bruce Arians. Arians stepped down as head coach to move into a front office role.

Bowles, 58, spent the past three seasons as the Bucs’ defensive coordinator. He had two years remaining on his defensive coordinator contract. But the Bucs tore up that one and gave him a head coaching deal. Bowles previously was head coach of the Jets from 2015-18, going 24-40. He also served as interim coach of the Dolphins for three games to end the 2011 season, going 2-1.

Are we talking about the same coach who’s game plan shut down Mahommes and the Chiefs in the super bowl. The same guy whose defensive scheme are responsible for him even being considered for a HCing position.

By the way, it’s the coordinators who devise the game plans which are then presented to the HC for approval.

He's a good guy, not a bad DC, but.....a HC entails a lot more than one discipline. "The devil is in the details", and there's a lot of those as a HC. Good luck !

I think this is a really good move for Tampa Bay. He's a coach who players love to play for even Jamal Adams praised him every chance he got (before absolutely hating Adam Gase).

Bowles never had the talent in NY to win long term. A trio of Fitzpatrick/Marshall/Decker wasn't quite good enough etc too little, too late.

But our players played hard under him.

If TB can figure out a long-term plan beyond Tom Brady I bet Todd Bowles will win if TBs able to land him a QB. Unlike NY.

Bowles is the guy who convinced a GM to burn 2 top picks on safeties.

Smart of the Bucs to hire a patsy now. Get 1 season of success outta Brady, and when he walks, ya wont have to pay a coach to tank away cap hell.
