Tomon Fox Scouting ReportFox is thickly built with classic linebacker size, adequate strength and the smarts to cover up his athletic shortcomings in the right scheme. Has a filled-out frame with good thickness. Plays at full speed at all times with an active motor and determined quickness in pursuit. Fox has good reaction skills and awareness. Forceful tackler vs. the run. He is quick to read run, showing good agility and speed to get past blockers and finish. Experienced in coverage and gets a strong jam on outside receivers. He has coordinated footwork and balance. Tomon makes more plays in pass coverage than expected because of his natural football instincts.

Areas for ImprovementTomon plays upright. He is inconsistent in giving full effort to be the second man in on the play. He must learn to use hands to beat blocks. He attacks the line but needs work on stacking and shedding blocks. He can be too hesitant when he doesn't find the ball immediately. Fox lacks elite quickness and change-of-direction ability to handle NFL slot receivers after initial contact. Does not blow up targets. Many inside tackles are catch-and-drags, which will be more difficult to make at the next level.

Tomon Fox NFL Draft Player ProfileFox is a tenacious pass rusher with good bend who occasionally pulls out a nice speed rush to get to the quarterback, but his lack of length frequently leads to him getting stonewalled before he has a chance to land a punch. At 6’3 and 265 pounds, he’s got some power for his weight, but doesn’t have much in the way of power rush moves or counters. His sack production probably means he’s on NFL radars, but to this point in his career, he hasn’t developed into a complete edge rusher like you’d hope he would have, and UNC last year had to devote a lot of linebacker blitzes to offset him and his groupmates’ inability to consistently pressure the quarterback. With more support on the interior, things could turn around for him as a pro prospect, but he has to show significant growth as a 6th-year college player.
